Hello, I am a junior college student from Japan and am just about finished. Upon completing my associates degree, I want to start pilot training to pursue my dream, since I was a little kid, which is to become a commercial airline pilot. And I just have a few questions about how to start my training.

Althoug I am an American citizen ( my mom is American), English is not my first language. I can understand casual conversations normally and can reak OK. However, when the language becomes more technical, and starts to use hard words, I will get lost and will not be able to understand the full meanings of the conversation or the diolog I am reading. My question is, is this a major problem upon training for Flying? I mean, it is obvious that there will be a lot of hard vocabulary and phrases that I will come across when studying for flying, and is it impossible for a non native english speaker to learn to fly in America?
What is the best way to start flight training. College Aviation Programs, private fight programs (Flight safty, DCA, PanAm etc), or at a local airport. There is a state college that has an aviation program there which is called Utah Vally State College by where I am going to school, and I am leaning toward that at this point. Has anybody heard of this school and if have, is it a goood school? Also the private flight programs ( Flight safty, DCA, PanAm etc) are very apealing to me also. Are these a better idea for my age (24). Or just to do the training at a local airport?

Sorry its very long. I will apreciate any questions.

Good questions. There are so many different ways you can go through your flight training - we all find our own ways. I chose University of North Dakota because I felt their flight training program was the best for me. It is very organized, well structured, has top notch planes and facilities, program is resonable in price, instructors are incredibly knowledgeable, etc. Plus, just like most collegiate aviation programs, they have an Aviation Management program.

I think Utah Valley State is a good place to look into, if you already live in Utah. I like the idea of having an avation program at college...but don't limit yourself to just these programs. Look into some flight training schools at your local airport and see how they are. There is really no right or wrong way to go down the road to an aviation career.

Almost every college in Utah has a flight school.UVSC is a good option. They are priced good and the quality isn't bad. There is also a local flight school at international that is good.I can't remember the name but if you want to know just ask.

I think Ophir might know the name of it.
