I am also covered on their insurance policy up to $100k, with 500$ deductable, but I have AOPA insurance to back that up

Well the guys who started the post is flying in good Ol New York, where everything is more expensive. I'd suggest switching to NFI they have more low wings. I use to work for long island jet center. I hated fueling Select because they had all high wings.

My club wet rates are:

$65/hr for C172s
$95/hr for the new C172-SP
$78/hr for the C172-RG
$95/hr for the C182
$115/hr for the C182-RG.

$74-76/hr for the Archer
$155/hr for the Seneca
$89/hr for the Arrow

$154-159/hr for a Beech Duchess

$80/hr for the Socata Tobago

$129/hr for the Mooney M20K Turbo

$219/hr for the Cirrus SR-22

Independant CFIs charge about $30/hr and up.

how has your experience been at plus one?

if i decide to go to school in san diego i was thinking about joining them.

i was looking into nfi but im too far along to switch to a low wing now. im comfortable with the 172's so if i switch schools im gonna go to something that has a cessna

No freakin' way would I (or shoud you) pay $2.50 PER landing!! You are getting bent over and screwed prison style. Tell them where they can stuff it and move on to another FBO. You're getting raped.

At my FBO, in FL, we currently pay the following rates (all rates wet):

C-150: $45/hr.
Tomahawk: $48/hr.
C-172N: $75/hr.
Warrior: $75/hr.
Arrow: $90/hr.
C-172SP(Brand New) - $98/hr.
Beech Travel Air: $185/hr. (includes instruction)

Instruction: $28/hr.

Move on to better/cheaper places my friend.

Select is charging so much because they have only new model Cessna's. They have some kind of contract with Cessna where every few years, new models replace the "older" (around 3 yrs) ones. The club is meant for people to fly the newest and most equipped 172's. They are definitely one of the most expensive schools at FRG (although nothing is cheap there).
The $2.50 is a landing fee charged to all aircraft by the county.

btw...that gas surcharge is absolute bs. find another school, pm me if you want, i have done my research at that airport

I pay $106/hr for the Arrow, the 172SPs rent for just over 100 bucks/hr, and there is a 172N, a Warrior and two Cherokee 140s that all rent in the $70s-80s range. These all reflect a recent increase to cover fuel costs which have risen to the $3.40s range for 100LL at my field. Instruction is $35/hr. I can't remember what the Seminole goes for.

I also pay $48/block for a nice little 150 at another airport.

I love flying clubs!

I am paying:

1975 C-172M ($58/tach hour)
1977 C-172N ($76/tach hour)
980 C-172P ($76/tach hour)
1976 C-177RG ($82/tach hour)
2000 C-182S ($92/tach hour)

And then when I fly with an instructor, I pay him $30 a hour. This is for a guy who knows his stuff and who has no desire to do anything but teach. He flew choppers in Nam and is retired, so what he wants to do is teach people to fly.

Sweet deal!

PS -- finally decided to show yourself to us, Sarah?

I did almost all my ratings as a Plus One Member. (I needed a C172RG for my Commercial and they didn't have one then, but do now.) It's a wonderful club. They have online scheduling and the maintenance is great. Their rates are also very good. Great price on the Skylane, which is my fav.

I agree with some others here, CLUBS ARE THE WAY TO GO! I can't understand why someone would want to pay an extra $30/hr to train a 172 (even if it is newer) if something more affordable is available. A Skyhawk is a Skyhawk. It all looks the same in your logbook. Save that money and fly it in something that matters later on...like twin time!

G'day all. My name is Simon and I am a 30-something living in Detroit. I moved here from Australia 4.5 years ago, and just received my PP-ASEL last week.

Aussie mentioned earlier in the thread that the charge in Australia is $130 USD per hour for rental. Knowing these prices, that's why I chose to take advantage of the US rates. I also can fly at night here, as opposed to Australia where I would have to obtain a separate night VFR rating.

Prices were $5 cheaper per hour up until about 1 month ago. Right now, at 1D2 (Metettal) rental is as follows:

Cessna 152 (IFR rated): $59.50 hr wet
Cessna 172: $74.50 wet
Piper Cherokee 180: $74.50 wet
Instruction: $30 per hour

Cheers,
Sime

ahemmm..plus tax

That might be a state/county deal, but here in Daytona if you're flying dual you don't pay tax on the aircraft or for the instructor. If it's strictly a rental, then you must pay the tax.

Sounds like a Brevard country thing. I'm pretty sure I pay tax over here in Orange. But then again we pay tax on just about everything since we are tourist central. I'll have to rifle through my receipts later to see.

dude check out what kermits doin to that stuffed animal in the picture, they are doing the exact same thing to everyone at your airport. $116/hr seems a bit pricey for a 172 but it depends on what type of model and how old it is. $42/hr is outrageous for an instructor especially when they probably pay him like $10 or $15/hr of that fee anyways. $2.50/landing is totally assanine. Sounds like they are taking advantage of everyones enjoyment of flying in the area. I would tell them to take their landing fees and shove it right up their, well you get the idea.

116/hr for a 172 and 42/instruction? i tell you one thing right now, that son of a b%$#@ better be all glass with a buit in coffee maker and a message chair which includes a happy ending for that price! as far as instruction, for that price you better be up there with chuck yaeger himself doing snap rolls. sheesh..

New York is expensive what can I tell you. The place I work at charges $88/hr for a 152, $104 for a 172 (carbeurated), $117 for a fuel injected 172R, $123 for the Cutlass, $193 for the Seminole, and $190 for a 210. Instructors are $44/hr and multi-instructors are $57. It just costs a lot of money to live up here.

Also landing fees are charged at almost every airport in the area. It is common practice.
