Seriously, that's a ripoff. I'm about to join an FBO Club that will rent 152's for $32 an hour wet. Normally it's $53 an hour wet if you don't join their club. I thought I was getting hosed paying $80 an hour for a 172 back home, $116 an hour plus all that other crap is crazy.

That's rediculous ... how can the airport charge planes that are based there for flight training $2.50 per landing?? I've never ever heard of something like that.

Re: What is everyone paying for their flight training

Too much!

dude those prices are rediculous, I also train at KFRG (BK Aviation), I pay like $68/hr wet and $33/hr instruction and of course everyone pays the $2.50 landing fee, we go elsewhere to do touch and goes b/c of this fee.

$96/hr for all 172s including everything from N models to new SPs, 32/hr for instruction. They will probably be raising the prices on us pretty soon but are phasing out the older planes and bringing in more newer ones. Duchesses are too much for me to even think about, but I'll worry about that when I'll be flying them.

Well, your not the only one paying that much. At BFI in seattle, the two main flight clubs charge 120/h+ for 172's and 48-60/h for basic instruction. But I never heard of any landing fees, gas surcharges or anything like that. Just for comparison.

81/hr. wet in a 172, and $37/hr for instruction.

My school has a 152 which rents for about $60/hr I believe, yet nobody trains in it and my instructor strongly suggests that I stay in the 172. The 152 might be a little uncomfortable, as I am about 6'4". Haven't really even looked into flying it though.

Also depends on how far you are from the practice area. 152s may be cheaper, but are also slower. If you have to fly 20 miles to get to the practice area, you'll spend more time enroute in the 152 than you would in the 172 and it would take you more hours to get the same amount of training done. At some point the 172 becomes as cheap or cheaper.

Im paying $190 per hr Aussie dollars. That include landing fee and wet lease.
Thats a Piper Warrior 3 aircraft!

Thats about $130 USD all up on current exchange rate!

I stepped up, and am throwin' my money down on newer aircraft to train in...
$145.00 wet/ piper Arrow, Cessna 182 Turbo
$205.00 wet/ Piper Seminole
$100.00 wet/ Cessna 172SP

It's a far cry from the $45.00 wet tach time that I paid for a 172 gettin' my instrument rating (at a flight club)... but it's nice using aircraft that haven't been beat to hell yet!

We charge (wet) 79/hr for C-172's or the Cherokee 180, and 35/hr for CFI's.

This is about the average rate right now, but a lot depends on the fuel prices at the airport you choose to fly out of. We could easily knock off 5-10 bucks from the rental rates if the FBO's weren't charging us 3/bucks a gallons for fuel, and that's with a discount. Transients are paying $4 per gallon.

Remember your average trainer will burn 5-10 gallons per hour, that's usually gonna be at least 1/3 of your cost for a wet rental.
