What insulates CHQ/Republic From Cuts?

ZapBrannigan

If it ain’t a Boeing, I’m not going. No choice.
I admit I don't keep up with airline news as much as I used to. Lately though there is a barrage of airline news-stories. Cuts at AA and Eagle, United, and this morning 3000 job cuts at Continental. Champion is done for. Spirit is downsizing. etc... etc...

I'm curious, what is preventing these cuts from rolling downhill to the regional partners -- specifically Chautauqua/Republic? Why are they insulated from high fuel prices, capacity reductions, etc?

I'm intrigued with that company from an investment standpoint (play money only). I can't stand Brian Bedford spewing his religious garbage... but I have to admire the success he has had as an airline CEO.

So for those of you who are still at the commuters... what is it about RJet? How can it remain successful as the airline industry self destructs around it?

They can probably move many seats around at a low cost. I don't buy the whole "E Jet so comfortable" argument. In times like these it comes down to dollars and cents. If you can operate with a low cost and complete most of your flights, you're good to go. Mesa just about crossed the line with poor reliability, if you can do a little better than them for that price you're golden.

I'm with you in terms of the "Ejet so comfortable" remark. When i'm looking for airfare on Expedia there is no box to check that says, "Book seats on Brazilian RJ". I just book what is cheapest and get what I get.

Since they're not tied to one single carrier CHQ and SKYW both have their hands in lots of cookie jars. Only thing is mom and dad might not have enough money in the bank to keep filling them up with cookies.

As opposed to you spewing your anti-Christian garbage?

I'm not really sure where Zap has been doing that. But even if he was, he's allowed to as a private citizen. BB is the head of a multi million dollar, publicly traded corporation and uses CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS to make religious statements.

The factor that insulates RAH holdings..........God must be BB's co-pilot. ;) :panic:

yes, it was sorta :sarcasm:

I'd venture to say they aren't insulated from cuts. Perhaps since they're diversified with multiple carriers, they are better leveraged against hard times (as others have suggested). But, I don't think any domestic carrier is safe right now. To be at the bottom of any seniority list, with the present state of the economy, is a scary position to be. IMO.

We aren't immune to any of this. Unfortunately the planes that United is parking is going to equal more flights for Republic. But our stock has been dropping faster than a prom queen's panties. I don't think it has anything to do with the planes we fly. Like Zap said no one out there picks their flights based on which regional is flying the connections. Bedford has done a good job of running a very lean business. No unnecessary costs and it shows if you try to get a hold of someone with a simple question and end up leaving 30 voice mails before getting a response. Low overhead equals lower costs to the major partners and so on....

Oh and about the Christian rhetoric you should see the weekly memo BB put out around Christmas. Priceless... It bothers some people, I consider myself agnostic and it just makes me laugh.

Oh, here we go...so BB can't make religious statements through HIS newsletters? He has every right to do that and he does. So now is it separation of church and business? Guess I missed that one.

Don't like 'em, don't read 'em.

It wouldn't bother me but it's not his, or even the board's, company.

I used to read em to see what direction the company was going in until he started talking about how bad Abortion is and is a crime against God, followed up by the news of his wife's miscarriage

Are you kidding me? What sort of nonsense is that for a corporate document? Wow! :whatever:

Um, if he wants to preach.....go do it....but corporate communications aren't the pulpit for this rhetoric.

I knew I didn't want to goto work for Republic for a reason.

What a nut case.

So Zap, you have your answer.

God (Allah - or whatever Idol) insulates Republic.

Man, I'm going to have to have a beer and a hot dog to digest this thread already.

John, you disappoint me. I figured this thread would be just your thing. Airlines, God and Politics.

BB message caused alot of flak, now he publishes two seperate memo's around the religious holidays...I really dont give a #### if he does or doesnt, some people look for something to get upset about.

As far as rjet being immune? Well they just announced unpaid leave for July...Not sure why you are pointing your radar right at Rjet either. CRJs are gone by 09..thats 27ish, 135s gone soon, that was 17, f9 had 17 planes slated for it, theyre gone...But do i feel more "security" here then i would somewhere else...right now, yes. I think the 170 can be marketed as more of a mainline plane then the Cr7, you cant tell people they are on a mainlinish plane , and then "valet" tag their bag.
