What does Z on this IA mean???

I'm almost certian the reason is because there are two seperate approaches...there is also a Y approach.

It must be a method to distinguish two approaches that use the same ILS, but from different IAFs. I know DFW has an ILS Y and Z for rwy 18L, but they are exactly the same so in that case I don't know why.

The letter Z represents a Facilities / Fixes ( Look at the legends section of a IAP page IX ) required for the approach. In this case the Z would be a VHF Facility that gives the DME for the approach. The DME in this case is not on the ILS but rather on the VOR.

[/ QUOTE ]Pretty close.

When there are multiple approaches into an airport that use the same navaid for guidance, the additional approaches get a letter added to the approach name. The convention starts with "Z" and works its way backward. =Something= about the two are different, but it doesn't have to be the IAF

You are correct, I really appreciate the reference at the bottom as I was going off with info I was told and didn't look it up. It pays to review and stay up as this is a new change and it caught me unaware.

They are correct about syaing that it is for a different approach for the same runway of the same kind. An example is that there are a few seperate RNAV/GPS approaches into MSP Runway 12R.
