Well after 4 months of saving money and dodging bad weather I am now a commercial pilot! I took my oral on wednesday but because of weather we had to do the flight today. Oral was very basic, pretty much my private all over again, with added emphasis on systems. Didn't even cover weather. Lasted about 1.0. Today was the actual ride. Visibility was 3-5 miles, but the ceiling was 12k. Started out doing short and soft field takeoffs and landings, and the 180 power off. Went and did Steep turns, chandelles, slow flight, stalls, eights on pylons. Discussed overspeed prop, lost procedures and then headed back to go to the first checkpoint on the x-c. He was satisfied and so was I, We headed back did the after landing checklist and he shook my hand to congratulate me. 1.3 on the meter and a nice paper certificate to go in my logbook. This was probably the most over prepared I have been for a checkride, but that's a good thing. The examiner was a real nice guy, very fair, and helped me learn some things and challenge myself to think outside the box. As happy and relieved as I am to have it over, I'm excited thinking about the next step. Thanks to all of you for the invaluable information on this site, It's a great thing to have people like this and a wealth of knowledge and experience all in one place.

If you're legal have a drink for me!:nana2:

Congrats!!!!! I have mine coming up within the next week or two. Any advice?

Thanks, just make sure you know systems (Pressurized vs non, turbos, how everything works as well as private vs common carriage type stuff) Those were the most emphasized points on my ride. Everything else is basically back to the private pilot days.

Bone up on the knowledge areas you may have missed on the written. Otherwise have your flight plan weather et al ready and give as a presentation.Do not :panic:

Thanks for the advice all! Hopefully I'll be as successful as TGatch was on his ride.

I'll make sure I have 119 down! (as well as the rest of the stuff)

How in depth did they go on systems with you guys on your ride? Did they want more than a general working knowledge on systems or do they pretty much expect you to re-invent the wheel on the subject. I'll prepare for the worst but I'm assuming there is only so much they can really ask regarding systems.

DEFINITELY know the common/private carriage stuff as well as "holding out",
I almost busted because I didn't understand this very well. If you Google: FAA 120-12A, there is a great PDF file containing all the information you need to know regarding this...very helpfull!

Congrats man!! Was your examiner J.L.? I start my commercial training Monday. Can't wait to start the chandelles and lazy eights!

Nice job! I'm just 20 hours into my 141 commercial. Hope to have to same announcement soon!

No it wasn't J.L. I used him for my instrument...It was B.R. used to be the cheif? Flight instructor at sporty's...I think you would know him.

You can say that again. I royally screwed those up all the way through my CFI checkride. Guess they looked close enough to what they needed to be ;).

ha That's how I felt....When it felt most unnatural my instructor said they looked great go figure.
