Want to fly... will travel

Hi all,

I guess I thought there might be a sticky for this, but I couldn't find it...

I'm a low time single engine only commercial pilot in the US. I'm interested in learning about flying overseas to build some time and get some experience outside of the US. Of course I need to learn about certification requirements for specific countries, but first I'm just curious as to if there are flying jobs suited to my experience level in Australia, Southeast Asia, etc.

Most of the threads I've seen are for FO's with type ratings in a B747 flying for XXXXXX Airlines, which of course wouldn't work for me since I only have 250 hours and no multi. Also I've seen threads about Africa, but it's kind of the same deal and require German or Portuguese or what have you.

If anyone could point me in the general direction of any information that might be available on this forum or otherwise, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!

I know guys with your experience level who got hired at Susi Air in Indonesia. That's about it.

I have heard of guys going down to Maun, Botswana but you have to go in person and I know a bunch of guys who talk about doing it but I don't personally know anyone who has actually gone down there to look for a job.

What he said above, if you have money to burn, travel and drop off resumes but unless you go to one of the above places your probably not going to get far without an ATP and some jet time (with a type), or sell your soul and your dignity for PFJ (plz don't do that).

Another option is to get your CFI/CFII/MEI, instruct for a few hundred hours then go to a place like the Middle East or Asia, they hire CFI's with exp. over there. Specifically, I know of some in Jeddah, Jordan, Maldives, and a few in China that hire Americans.

Good Luck.

Ha! What dignity? Just kidding... but no I don't want to scab. CFI in Korea sounds fun, hell I could probably get a job 'teaching english' there while I was at it.

What is that low time in numbers?

As for new dept of labor regulations, expats are now required to have 500TT

The only job ad I have seen in the past weeks that didn`t specified any TT requirement is this one: http://www.aviationjobs.me/2013/09/c401-and-bn2a-21-pilot-in-command-Northsky-Air-Philippines.html

by rating they mean nothing more then an aircraft check out, when I got my first bush flying job one of the requirements was to have a C206 rating, paid about 300 USD for an hour of airtime and had what I needed in my logbook.

I currently have 256 hours.

Swiss, that Islander looks awesome, only I don't have my multi yet.
256 or 4k.... you find yourself in good company looking for a job. If you haven't found anything by FEB give me a shout and I might be able to turn you onto something worth your time here in the states.... if not best of luck...
