If it ain’t a Boeing, I’m not going. No choice.

I just had a squadronmate go interview with them a week or two ago. He was put off by their (lack of) long-term pay increases compared to flying for 121 operators.

Understood. It may be better than his 15 on 13 off 63 grand a year captain pay though.

Got a text last night. Supposedly after this was all done the VP of aviation told them that now that the $$ and schedule were fixed, if anybody chose to quit it was because they were making a personal choice, not because anything was wrong in the department. If true, that just amazes me. How can any manager be so oblivious to why people are unhappy in his department... or so misguided as to believe that money will fix it?

I don't know anyone who listed money as their reason for leaving. In fact several of us took pretty sizable pay cuts to go. People don't quit jobs. People quit people.

Still, this should make it a little easier to recruit at WIA this week. They want to hire at least 3 more at that event.

@ZapBrannigan, it really doesn't surprise me at all. I've considered going back to corporate a couple times lately, including doing several interviews over the past year.

I am just shocked how poorly run and, quite frankly, how unprofessional most part 91 flight departments are run. Truly abysmal, and I am now so turned off by my recent experiences that I'm 100% done looking at corporate.

I don't know how it happens, but the vast majority of these places are ran by egomaniacs that are completely incompetent when it comes to social intelligence and how to be a good manager. Truly a shame, as one or two of the places I was looking at had the potential to be excellent career gigs.

Man. That's a pretty broad brush to paint with based on your few experiences. I can honestly say after two years of 121 regional flying it's not for me at all. I'm not going to be so naive as to say every 121 position would be crap. If you only hear about a part 91 job through a job posting, you're right, it's probably not a place with longevity. The good jobs, some one has a person or persons in mind that would be perfect for their operation should a spot open up. When they do have an opening they reach out to them. I've learned to never say never in this business. The best job in aviation is part 91 and the worse job in aviation is part 91. To call "most part 91 operations unprofessional" is disingenuous at best.

Most 91 jobs are crappy. There are a few that are awesome, but for the most part they have lots of problems. I did it for several years, I have lots of friends that do it, and overall I've had enough exposure to corporate to have a better than average feel for it. I'm very comfortable with my take on it.
