Greeting Doc,

What is the likely outcome for an applicant requesting an FAA first class medical who misses one or two of the letters on the 20/20 line while looking into one of those eye machines? Especially after just having received a complete eye examination from an eye doctor( the previous month), and being told that he or she has 20/20 vision?

Take a completed Form 8500-7 from the eye doctor the the AME and he should use that for the eye exam. That is the best way to handle this problem.

I did an eye exam in june and Im due for my medical next month. Could I still take the 8500-7 to my eye doc or has to much time passed?

So you can get an eye exam, have the doctor fill out the 8500-7, and then the AME doesn't do an eye test?

Does it have to be an ophthalmologist or can optometrists fill them out?

An optometrist can do it. The AME may check phorias if it is a class 2 and also may check color vision of the eye doctor does no indicate the test and the number of errors if any. There are specified color vision testing requirements from the FAA

EAMTZ, I started doing this after the Doc suggested it a couple years ago, best thing since sliced bread ! Thanks again Dr!
