No, his "float coat" (a type of life preserver worn by people working on the flight deck) which caught on one of the inlet pitot tubes saved his life.

His helmet was sucked off his head and was shreded by the engine.

My bad. I saw him on a talk show or something a while ago and I thought I heard something about his helmet.
