Van Nuys Flight Center

Have any JCers here had any experience with this flight school? Both positive and negative comments are welcome. Thanks.

Not a bad place, just expensive. They don't cater too much to the "career pilot flight training" crowd, but more to the "rich guy private pilot" sector.

Thanks for the reply. Do you or anyone on JC know any good (fairly inexpensive) FBO flight training facilities around that area (Van Nuys, Burbank)? I appreciate your help.

I've been looking around at flight schools in the same area myself. I checked out VNFC as well as Group3 at Van Nuys. VNFC seems to have newer planes but you pay alot more there. Group3 was a little better on pricing and Claudia (one of the owners) was really nice. Another option is to go over to Whiteman to Vista Air. Their prices are a lot cheaper. Another option I've been considering is joining a club and training with one of their CFIs. This is definitely the cheapest route but I don't know if it's the best route. If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it. Let me know what you decide jtsastre, maybe we can get a group discount :)

I'd say if the aircraft condition are acceptable and you can find a good CFI, the flying club is your best bet. What are your concerns?

Thanks for the replies. Flight13 I'll let you know where I decide to go. Let me know also if you find somewhere that looks good. Thanks.

i was flying over at hollywood aviators before i moved from the area. i liked my instructor and hte planes were well kept too. the only downside (for some) is they are part 61. i'm under part 61 again after leaving riddle, so.. yeah. haha.

I have had trouble finding a flight school that caters to the prospective professional pilot anywhere in the valley. VNFC was too much for my budget and I did some training at Vista. Good prices, and competent instruction but better for initiall PPL training than anything else. I'm moving to Long Beach now and I'll probably fly out of LBFC.

Vny

I agree with Brett. The best schools for anything other than private in the LA Basin are in LGB,SNA,RAL, or POC. Vista is up at whiteman, but they also cater to the rich guy crowd. Same goes with most of the schools at SMO. If you wind up going to VNY flight center, drop me a pm. I have a good friend there that I did my initial CFI with. I also know some guys at Whiteman and SNA if you go that route. Good luck!

POC has a good flight school? I dont think so...other than Mt San antonio college.

Does anyone have any opinions on Sun Quest out of Whiteman?
Although valley schools seem to be pricier, because of my location (Magic Mountain area), Van Nuys and Whiteman are really my only options.

Regarding Sun Quest, there are a few planes there that I wouldn't touch with a stick. There's some decent instructors there though.
