UTU voted in at Lakes

now I don't know much or any of the circumstances/options you all had.....and I surely don't want this comment taken the wrong way by any means, but why utu and not alpa? with that said, congrats!

I dont know the reasons for not having ALPA to be honest. Its still a victory for us at Great Lakes. Our current contract that was negotiated under the teamsters was a joke. The teamsters havent done much for the pilots at Lakes. UTU did well for the Big Sky pilots (my understanding atleast) and that meant a lot to the current pilot's at Lakes.

77% of the eligible pilots voted and most voted for UTU. I don’t think IBT got a single vote on the pilot side. There were a few write ins for ALPA. All of us are really excited to get a new, fair contract with the interests of the pilots and flight attendants in mind. Our current contract was voted down 100% by the pilot group and teamsters didnt do a thing for us.

Please support us in the next few months as we try to better the profession.

Congrats! We would still love to have you at ALPA!

Isn't bigsky defunct now?

Why not ALPA?

There was a short period where the organizing committee was collecting opinions and preferences from pilots, each union was submitted a series of questions and the results were posted to help select the most suitable union.

Many were in support of ALPA however there was a greater interest in UTU. I think some of the major factors was the "little fish" feeling with ALPA, and how adamant UTU was to be involved (and the previous success with BigSky). Both had very good things to offer.

We'll see what happens, IBT (local 747) was not much help during last negations, the current contract is up in the fall so lots of work to be done. The pilot group as a whole is very serious about making things better, this over anything else will be more important that what union we have.
