Using LogTen Reports for Checkride

It's been 12 years since my last Checkride, and in two weeks I'm going for my instrument Checkride. With that being said, I have both paper logbooks and an electronic logbook using LogTen pro. When I visit the DPE, will printouts from the electronic logbook suffice or do they want to see signed entries in the paper logbook? Wondering if anyone has any experience doing it this way. Thanks. Appreciate the help.

Ask the DPE.

I know one DPE who loves LTP. I know another who has a flip-phone.
Although there still exist no specific regs or guidance on electronic logbooks, they have begun to reach a general level of acceptance in the FAA. But the best answer is this one.

There is one thing I think would be legitimately problematic - how is your instructor "signing" your LogTen (I'm not familiar with the program). Recall that the regs requires all dual to be endorsed and I really think a DPE would not be doing his job properly without checking to see that the requirements for dual instruction were not only logged but endorsed by the instructor.

That's one of the reasons why, despite using an eLog for about 20 years now, when I finally gave up my paper log (last year), I kept it for dual received and endorsements.

As I recall LogTen has a digital signature capture function, just use your finger to write

My take on this, and what I did personally, is to keep a paper logbook updated until you get your ATP. After that, lock that puppy away in a fireproof safe or a bank safety deposit box and go all E-Log.

There's actually a whole AC (AC 120-78) that gives guidance for electronic signatures as they relate to pilot logs, maintenance logs, load manifests, and similar documents. I'm sure Log Ten Pro went to great lengths to ensure their system met the guidance.

At the same time, electronic sigs are somewhat like Bit Coins: they're only valuable if someone else will accept them.....
