Using a Tablet PC as an EFB

I've been tossing around the idea of getting a refurbished tablet PC or one off Ebay that's a year or two old and then loading it up as an EFB. I figure why pay Arinc $1500 for the eflybook, which is only a reader and can't be used for anything else, when I can get myself a used tablet for $500-700 and then load that up with the stuff I need.

Any thoughts on this?
 
I've got a Toshiba R15-S829 tablet. It is pretty neat to use, although rather large for the purpose of an EFB. I would recommend something in the 10"-12" screen size, the smaller the better.

Also, I find it's hard to read in direct sunlight. Maybe the newer laptops offer better screen brightness but I find even with this "higher end" laptop I am frustrated when there is too much light.
