Unmonitored?

IIRC it means no one is listening to it to make sure it's working. I could be way off base though. Kind of like "Hey, if it's broken, would you let us know please."

If it is unmonitored and the only approach into the airport, or only precision approach, then the airport can not be used as an alternate or non-precision alternate mins would apply correct? I am hopefully a week or so away from the IFR check ride and I feel like I have so much info swimming around in my brain that it tough to keep it all clear.

For flight planning purposes, an unmonitored approach will almost always be N/A as an alternate. So yes, if the only approach into an airport is unmonitored you wouldn't be able to plan that field as an alternate.

I have the same understanding. You can still use the nav aid for navigation/approaches, but any associated airport can't be used as an alternate.

To be honest I'm not sure what makes something fall into the status of "unmonitered." Maybe the airport manager took vacation so no one is around to verify it. :)
