United UMPP Program

Just spent the week in DEN chatting with new hires/applicants and heard an overwhelming positive response about the United Military Pathway Program. This program seems to be a win/win with United filling class dates years out, and military pilots having piece of mind after separation from the armed services. Right now, you need to have greater than 1 year before your separation date to join the program, but I was seeing hiring for separation dates greater than two years out.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions on the program.

Yeah, I’ve heard the same positives. Sounds like a great program.

I’d heard about the program, and was thinking about this in the United Aviate thread when the comments were being made of “the only way to get hired at UA right now would be through Aviate.” Then I figured that must mean part and parcel from this program. It’s very nice that it’s working out and does appear to be a win/win for both airline and applicant. I would think other airlines would want to follow suit?

The main way to get hired at U (in today's current environment) is through one of the pathway programs. Whether that be Aviate, Skywest, or UMPP as any of these are good options if you want to end up at U. There are very few traditional interviews that are and have been conducted to my knowledge over the past couple of months. However, I did hear that there should be an increase in the near future so hopefully some traditional people get a call soon.

I'm honestly surprised other airlines haven't followed suit yet. It fills class date seats years out and the military guys/gals have direction for their post service career years before separation. I have heard of some military folks waiting to apply traditional vs. UMPP and would highly recommend against that. My opinion, very few people are going to benefit from that path and get to United quicker than UMPP as of the current hiring environment.

That makes more sense. I was trying to remember the wording in the thread without looking it up. Still, it’s good that traditional isn’t being abandoned entirely. Lots of good avenues to get good candidates from. That’s a good question why other airlines don’t have it.

We are getting a lot of good and very experienced LCC candidates the traditional method and I foresee more in the future. It's just much more competitive to get the call then it has been the past couple of years.
