United Runway Incursion from years back

Yeah...that one...

That's a good one, where a pilots situational awareness by listening to the "conversation" on the freq can sometimes be better than the controllers "situational awareness". It's a tough call for a pilot to tell ATC "we ain't gonna do it". It's equally as tough to fess up when you think you're lost, as United did.

Please people, don't assume and don't let it bother you if you piss off ATC by asking two or three times.

Thats a good video for any pilot to see. I feel it changed how I would have handled a situation like that, if ever encountered.

They do try to get a little attitude when you ask them for verification on clearances. I don't care because it's my tickets on the line.

The UA pilot admits he's on a rw, the tower says they can't see anyone, and yet still the tower tells the other a/c to takeoff....kind of snotty too....Good on hte US Air crew.

That controller is known to be snappy like that often. I had heard that from several people after seeing that video. Then one night a few years ago I flew into PVD and low and behold, it was definitely the same voice on the approach frequency and she was definitely NOT in a good mood.

courtesy of AOPA's ASF...

very scary there. Props to the USAir pilots.

Absolutely! Nice job trying to figure out what's going on instead of just blasting off....no point in reliving the KLM Tenerife incident.

US Air 2998 are my heros :D
This is a real scary movie, beats all the Helloween's and Friday the 13th and Texas chainsaw massacre :D

FYI, they received massive accolades and a big honor from ALPA after the incident.

By them questioning ATC and delaying takeoff, they literally saved hundred of lives.

The general public has no idea of the miracles that occurred that day.

Probably one of the things that the public should not know:nana2: Why are they doing that, don't they get training?:sarcasm: :sarcasm:

Good CRM does not start & end in the cockpit, the US Air pilot took advantage of everything around him, good for them...

They showed us that last year in Eagle newhire training--after United finally finds their way to the gate, US Air gets cleared for takeoff and reads back the wrong runway! I think they were flustered at that point. Anyway, that crew showed excellent judgement despite the controller's insistence that they takeoff.
