United/JetBlue Rumor Mill

I can't believe we aren't talking about this yet.

Supposedly the two airlines are negotiating a multi layer process of integrating JetBlue into United Mileage Plus.

If the internet rumors are true (which we all know how those go):

Step 1 is just some merging some mileage programs benefits together between the two airlines.
Step 2 is some code sharing and potentially taking some JFK slots from JetBlue and selling them to United.
Step 3 is a potential merger if regulatory systems allow and steps 1 and 2 are going good.

My question for the JetBlue guy's and gal's what are your thoughts on this? I heard the MEC wrote a pretty scathing response.

Was curious your pro's/con's from the line.

Myself as a U guy, I'm indifferent. The JFK slots would probably be good as I know Kirby want's a bigger stake out there, but other than that it doesn't move the needle much for me.

I believe none of what I hear and half of what I see. If this happens, it happens. There are United guys on APC talking about getting the stapler out because "iT's An AcQuIsItIoN NoT a MeRgEr!!!!!!!"

If there is a merger, I'm not looking forward to going through it, but nobody has asked my opinion on the matter.

I’ve been looking forward to a post about this just so I can say I’m looking forward to having @jtrain609 sling gear for me when he’s stapled.

(Shouldn’t need to say it, but heavy, ridiculous sarcasm intended.)

• off and die.

I love you.

The bookface's and forums have been wild with this nonsense. It's just noise imho. Every merger is ugly, and I'm sure someone's going to be upset with the results. If it does happen (which is a very big if) it's as fair and equitable as possible for all parties.

The lengths United is will to go through to get JFK slots...

Having more domestic uplift is what United needs but I don't see it happening.

I’m sure that regulatory approval will be forthcoming with adequate purchases of TrumpCoin.

Honestly, if it has any chance of happening, it needs to happen in the next 4 years.

Our CEO has been going to some presidential dinners at the white house. Shouldn't hurt with the supreme leader.

I am so junior none of this really matters to me. I already may never see the left seat.

When can I bid IAD?

I am legit surprised at the people calling for this to be a staple. I thought stapling wasn’t even possible anymore with two ALPA carriers.

I have suspected for some time that a gate exchange would make sense. If B6 offered slots in JFK, I would hope they would get slots in Chicago, Dulles, or both in return.

B6 badly needs a base in the mid Atlantic, Midwest, or both that can take the pressure off of the operation when it implodes due to weather in the northeast.

But again, I am super junior, and it has been made clear to me by more than one of my coworkers that my opinion doesn’t matter a whole lot.

Most people I know are actually optimistic about it. The doom/gloom and staple talk is just a few bitter people on the internet.

It's not possible after McCaskill-Bond was passed. We wouldn't even get there, because as you point out it's a pair of ALPA carriers, but there's also a statutory limitation on stapling one seniority list to another.

But the reality is that pilots are •, so try not to put too much stock in what they say.

Anyone talking about stapling is talking out of their ass. (YCTSAH)

Even if this is bad for the hometeam, I am glad to be sitting this one out.
