Does UND have a flight team?
Yes they do! They have a NIFA flying team, which this past year regained the national championship. I was a member of the team for three years before that year. I can get you in contact with the senior members of next years team, if you want. UND also has an aerobatic flight team, pm "TXaviator" for more info on that one.
Do they pay for your flight hours as a member? I would really like to know since it would probably be a great idea in terms of filling up the weekends with things to do and making friends.
They pay you back at the end of the year with a "scholarship" summing the money you spent, which is flight hours at the staff rate.
Yes and no. Two years ago, all flying was done on your own dollar. Our rates were rather low, though, so it didn't set you back too bad. This past year, they set a new system, but I don't know the details since I wasn't on the team that year. PM "scoutflyer" for more info on that. I don't know if that scholarship thing is accurate.
One thing to consider, though. On the team, while you may get to fly for little, or possibly free, it is not a way to build hours. For the time you spend working for the team, you could probably work a job and pay for more flight hours yourself than you'll get on the team.
Also, could I join it as an Econ major with a minor in pro flight? What if I am not starting flight classes until the spring?
Everyone at the university is welcome to join the team. You don't even have to know about aviation, technically. As long as you can put in the time and effort, you're welcome on the team.
I am betting that UND has the same problem as Purdue, there is nothing more than a boring hick town all around it. It probably doesn't really matter to me since I'm more of a homebody and don't really like to go chasing around the town but it'd be nice to do SOMETHING other than video games.
Yep!

You will make some the best friends you can have on the team, there is no doubt of that. However, I again want to warn you, if you're joining the team just for something to do, don't bother. You won't enjoy it. If you're joining so that you can learn, have fun, and win a national championship or two along the way, then there is no better group on campus! The team is a huge time commitment. My senior year, I was practicing for 10 of the 11 events, and I was probably spending more than 40 hours a week outside of class on the team (i probably spent another, oh, 15 hours a week IN class on the team, too

). I was an overachiever, though

As a new member, you will be spending at least your Monday and Wednesday nights and all day Sunday doing things for the team. Like I said earlier, though, you can't spend that much time with other people and not become best friends. You'll have a blast if you apply yourself and give it a chance!
Basically what I'm saying is, the team isn't for everyone. It takes a lot of time, a lot of effort, and is a big commitment, but it was all worth it for me. I have absolutely no regrets.
They are the brunt of lots of jokes.
Also true, and proud of it!
