UA to furlough almost 700 FAs?

Don't know much about it other than that I hear it takes almost ten years to hold a line in some bases. Or so I've heard...

This might have something to do with UA losing the longstanding code share they had with USAir.

The day US merged with AA--the first thing they did was cancel the UA codeshare.

All of that customer feed is now going to AA.

I would expect AA to be looking for 700 new flight attendants.

I've heard it's mostly political. The fUA and fCO flight attendants have not had an SLI yet. And they are parking UA 757 and stopped an order for Airbuses, 700 fUA FA's are getting furloughed. This goes back to 2006 hires! Most of FA's that were hired recently probably went to the CO side and won't get furloughed.

You've gotta be kidding me... So what's this make the most junior FA now? 90 years old?

FAs need to be pushing for a physical fitness standard of some kind. Right now it's just a joke.

Can't wait to get me on one of those orgasmic flights! Old and saggy breasts are the best! :sarcasm:

All this "Pre-merger United", "Post-merger Continental" stuff looks like a mess. I fully expect integration to involve furloughs, at SFO the CO-side rampers still can't work the pre-merger UA metal...once they can work any plane, they'll be way over staffed.

The furlough was for UA flight attendants only. Not the continental side. Continental has been hiring for the last three years. None of those people are being furloughed because they were hired to the Continental side. The flight attendants are not joined yet between the two.
