Turbine Time

Does South West Airlines consider time in a Turbo Prop (1900 or Saab 340) turbine time.

How about the legacy carriers?

Southwest does, the others I don't know about. If you check the appropriate websites they might have more specific info on their requirements.

If the aircraft is powered by a gas turbine engine, of any sort, the airlines will consider it to be "turbine time". However, most of them look at it like this. Turboprop time is desireable, but pure turbojet or turbofan time is MORE desireable. I dunno why, because the one with the propeller on the end is more complicated to operate, but that just seems to be the way of things.

I don't remember whom, but I've heard of at least one major that doesn't count Caravan time; it's gotta be MULTI turbine time for them.

Mainly because the Majors don't operate the Gas Turbine Engine with the propeller on the front...

Actually during the hiring boom there were a fair amount of F-16 guys getting passed up for jobs due to lack of Multi-Engine Turbine PIC time...

Some airlines are also critical of how heavy your turbine aircraft is. Can't remember which, but for one of the Big Boys if your turbine bird weighed less than 50k, it doesn't count. That really sucks if you're CA in an ERJ, because the max gross (except for maybe the XR) is under 50k.

B1900 time is golden at Southwest (make sure you spell it right on the resume). Many of our Beech drivers have been hired there with no RJ time.
