Does anyone have the latest info on TSA requirements for permanent residents(Green Card). I've been checking the web and can't seem to find anything. One flight school and a friend of mone both informed me that Green Card holders no longer need to go through the TSA process so I'm just trying to verify this. Thanks.

You have to go to the website below and start an application. The instructions are on there but basically you have to pick your school before you apply and include them on the application. Pay $130 processing fee, then get fingerprinted (pay for it of course), pass a background check and they send you and your school permission to start training.

each application only covers one license/rating at a time so when the instrument rating rolls around re-apply and pay another $130 for the application fee! Want to change flight schools? New application and application fee - you get the drift!

It's really B.S that U.S residents have to do this. Having legit U.S residency should be more than enough. Now, I can understand people here on a visa who would have to get approved but for U.S residents it's PATHETIC! :banghead:

I'm about to pay another $130 for my IR. Yep, just follow the fun instructions on that link.

Being a permanant resident is not the same as being a citizen.

For national security issues I don't see how they are any different. To become a permanent residents they have to go through strict security mesures and extensive background checks which put any TSA check to shame.

Really its a waste of time making permanent residents do the Alien Flight School thing.

"If you don't like the process, then get out of my country."

I can already predict someone saying that. The silly part is it usually comes from the most ignorant and illiterate people anyway. That's a whole other topic, but I'll stick to what I say.

Quite honestly, I don't see what difference it makes between being a permanent resident and being a citizen of a naturalized citizen for that matter. The background checks have always been in place. I truthfully believe it's their way of making money.

Anyway......I'm glad I'm done w/ all of my training and I don't have to pay the $130 anymore.

Wait....I hope I don't have to do this for airline training do I?! I'm gonna have to start saving up for the $600 to get myself naturalized as an American citizen who can sing The Star-Spangled Banner and be able to say how many senators exist, etc...
Hell, I could probably teach some of those a thing or two about English. [/tangent]
