TSA Doing Their Job?

So I'm sitting here, and had an epiphany about my experience with the TSA last night. I realized, that although I was taken through security twice, I was never put through a metal detector.

However, they did find my Swiss Army pocket knife, and made me check my bag to keep it. So I guess we're safe, right?

What a joke they are. :bang:

While they are asking me to take my headsets or my iPad out of my bag other tea agents are walking with backpacks through the exit into the "sterile" area

Huh? So the put you through a millimeter wave scanner instead of a metal detector, found a prohibited item in your bag, and gave you the option of tossing the knife or checking the bag?

Plenty of flight crewmembers walk through exit lanes into the sterile area via known crewmember too.

Not seeing an issue here. The fact that they gave you the option of checking the items is unusual. They have the power to confiscate it immediately or have made your night significantly longer.

Crew members, KCM, LEO's, TSA, Airport Personnel, and the General Public are all processed differently and may change between airport and the current threat level.

Gotta learn how to play the game

Ya but the difference is we do not have rampant thievery amongst our ranks, are generally well educated, don't have corn-rows and wear shorts, and don't have an overblown hardon powertrip.
SHUTUP.... sir.

This is not a Kcm area, else I would've gone through there

No scanner at all. I opted out. They're supposed to walk you through a standard metal detector and then do the whole pat down.

The TSA's blog makes no mention of a magnetometer visit for those who opt out of AIT screening. From the TSA blog:

TSA has given passengers the option of opting out of imaging technology. If you choose to opt out, simply let the officer know you would like to opt out of the body scanner, and you will receive a pat-down instead.

Whenever I opt out I never get sent through a metal detector either. Just the tax-funded warm handed pat down

Sigh... You know how many times flight crew members have been caught stealing, smuggling or hiding contraband?

Lots.

And frankly I see a lot more power tripping pilots than I do TSA staff.

And finally, not really sure what shorts and corn rows have to do with anything.

Well my bad! Every time I've done the opt out, I've been sent through the metal detector.

@BobDDuck I agree with you for the most part here but have seen a lot of power tripping TSA and clueless agents. What is scary is the amount of badges and uniforms the TSA has lost. It was a few thousand in the last article i read.

Because there's never been pilots busted for child porn, sexual assault, drugs, stealing (it's happened). There's bad apples in every group. Yeah the whole thing is a pain in the dong but a majority of them just do the job they're required to.

You mean Shennanigans?!?!
The couple of times I "opted-out" the TSA agents made it VERY apparent that I was annoying them and it turned into 10+ minute ordeals each time.

"Yeah, but we didn't go $100k in debt to make $20k a year."
