Finally getting around to posting some photos from a 2-week Canada trip I got to do with my wife and a few friends earlier this month. We visited Nova Scotia, Toronto, and hit the Museum of the Air Force in Dayton on the way back.
Headed into northern West Virginia for a fuel stop. For the first time ever I landed somewhere that 'had fuel' and they were out, and had been for a week. So, a 40-mile hop into Maryland was required. Turned out to be a much nicer airport anyway.
Testing my new pulse oximeter. Interesting to put on oxygen and watch the numbers soar back to 99.
Picked up our other two traveling companions at HPN.
Sunset near North Sydney NS.
On the Cabot Trail headed north around Cape Breton Island.
Baddeck, site of much of Alexander Graham Bell's work, including the Silver Dart. The Bell museum was amazing. I had no idea he worked on such a massive variety of projects. The telephone was merely one small event for him. Also, Baddeck is absolutely gorgeous in the summertime!
Apparently this is my 'programming the GPS' face. My friend who occupied the right seat for most of the legs took a similar picture on each stop and it's a carbon copy. This is in Montreal, fuel stop enroute to Toronto. The controllers here were top notch. I was concerned about both the French accent and French being spoken on the radio, and while both were true, the controllers all went out of their way to speak in a way that make it easily understandable the first time.
On final to Toronto's island airport. What an amazing view of downtown, and some smokestacks that jut precariously up into the glidepath. Also, freaking windy! Though that was a theme at all landings. The only time I had less than a 20-knot crosswind was when we got back home.
Taxiing in. As a side note, Porter FBO is possibly the worst I have ever been to, ever. The line guy parked us, threw a set of chocks under a main wheel, and walked away before I ever got the door open. Got inside, there are 4 line guys crowded around the counter BSing with the counter girls. Had to basically pry my way through to get to the desk. Zero help with bags or anything. Same deal on the way out. Drag your own bags through the non-automatic tiny door that nobody can bother to hold for you. Forget about a luggage cart. And you get to pay $30/day for the privilege.
B52 in Dayton. This museum was EPIC. We only had 2 hours, and saw less than 1/4 of the displays. A few highlights were the B-52, B-1, B-2, F-117, B-58, a room full of ballistic missiles, etc etc. You could spend all day there.
