Training Materials?

Heading down there on the 15th of June for the Pro Pilot course, but I'd like to do some pre-reading if at all possible.

What combination of books / DVDs / whatever are used to facilitate the ground school portions of training? As admissions seem to be on a revolving basis, I assume, perhaps incorrectly, that ground school isn't a class, as such...

I asked the same question when I was seriously considering going down to Ari-Ben. I was told without hesitation: FAA Airplane Flying Handbook, FAA Instrument Flying Handbook, FAA Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge, and FAA Aviation Weather.

As a sort of insurance, Ari-Ben employs FAA examiners for the checkrides. Thusly, they place a lot of emphasis on FAA materials.

The whole "FAA" title put me off a bit, at first, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the books very easy to read, digestable, and packed with information.

I was also told: "If you read all those books before coming down, you'll impress the hell out of your instructor." That was good enough incentive for me.

Hey Kevin...you still considering Ari-Ben? I know you were leaning towards Mesa. Let me know what's going on.
