I was offered a job as a Traffic pilot down by st louis. I am from the chicago area and I am wondering if anyone has done traffic watch before in the chicago or st louis area, or anywhere else. Any information would be appreciated. I have read some other forums and some people said they didnt get paid for it, cuz they were "getting hours". I fly out of DPA and UGN and was offered the job down at DPA. Anyone with first hand experience would love to hear back from you. Thanks.

I was chief pilot for a traffic watch op in PHX in the early 1990s. Got paid for it, since I was working and it was my job.

I read in other posts on a different forum that they werent gettin paid because they were getting hours. I was told by the owner himself it was $10/hr. Did you like it?

I liked it, and I was paid 10 an hour as well....when I was the reporter I was paid 25 an hour!

It's a fun job, but it is a job, and you are providing a service.

I think we need to focus on the specific operation at hand here. From what I can tell it's Illinois Aviation Academy doing the work and they have a very bad reputation. I'd search around the forum and hopefully the few on this forum that have first hand experience working for them will chime in.

yea it's IAA who offered it to me. I spent a lot of money doing my commercial there and they offered it to me. I have heard they have led some people on. I know the owner personally and I hope he wouldnt do that to me.

the company I worked for wasn't the greatest either...nature of the business.
I did love working for Metro Networks, I was writing news stories that would be used nationwide by the time I had to quit.

I had a buddy up in the Chicago area "work" for them for a bit. He was not paid, but was under no impression that he would be. Hopefully knowing the owner you could get some money.

Any job is a godsend in this economy. I've had a few internal recs recently, but it seems that wasn't even enough.

You'd be flying little enough you could get something else to pay the bills.

that's true, we flew 2 hours twice a day at the beginning, and that was cut to two 90 minute flights before they cancelled the whole program.

If you get the chance, do it. It is a good time, and good time. You will have turns around a point mastered, LOL:D

I worked/contracted for Skyview Traffic, which was purchased by Metro Networks while I was there.
