Total CEO dead in runway crash; plow driver drunk

Good to see the Russians solved that one straight away. No chance of any investigation of any other factors. Airfield layout, tower control, LVPs, safeguarding or anything like that?

Anyone who has been there knows how badly organised it is on a good day...

You fly into VKO? Or SVO? Let me know the next time you're there.

Only the once I'm afraid, and that was enough for me. A colleague used to fly for an oligarch out of VKO and his stories are pretty hair-raising.

So apparently they were moving the airplane today and it reignited when they turned it over due to some more fuel spilling.

Also, for those curious, it apparently was a multi-use vehicle, not just a snow plow. That explains why there was no snow but this truck was there.

Sad situation. It'll be interesting to hear the "official" report of how this happened. There are so many "unique" aspects of this airport, it makes your head spin.

..

Taken straight from the news article:

"As well as questioning the driver, Russian investigators said Tuesday they were also assessing whether any mistakes were made by air traffic controllers in the crash which also killed three French crew members."

@Cptnchia - do you not see that immediately they're talking about blaming individuals, rather than looking at structural problems?

(Don't even get me started on metric altitudes)

A source stated that all airport personnel are given an alcohol test before and after each shift. Lemme guess...
DOH = Beginning of shift
DOT = End of shift

Turns out the CIA caused the crash: http://online.wsj.com/articles/russ...rnate-realities-1414099668?mod=trending_now_5

When the chairman and chief executive of Total SA, Christophe de Margerie , was killed this week after his private jet hit a snow-removal truck on takeoff from a Moscow airport, it looked like an accident.

Russian television viewers were treated to a different version. According to a top Russian television channel, a plot by the Central Intelligence Agency couldn’t be ruled out. Mr. de Margerie was, after all, a prominent opponent of U.S. and European Union sanctions on Moscow, and Washington wanted him silenced. This story was relayed not by an outraged nationalist pundit but by a newscaster.

They probably couldn't rule out aliens either so...
