I was about 600' over top of the beach.

Please, blow into a pitot tube and see what happens.
 
With a decent breeze aloft and the right pilot you can easily make a Super-Cub with a big engine hang on the prop and fly backwards! That looks like a lot of fun..gosh I miss those days.
 
I did -2 knots or something like that over the ground doing slow flight during my checkride. The winds at 3,000 were 48 knots (about 25 or 30 knots higher than forecast) and slightly higher I think. No picture because, well, I was too busy trying not to fail. :)

Though naturally that would have nothing to do with your indicated airspeed like the picture above. ;)
