Physicians have a clear edge over airplane pilots in annual earnings, $145,688 to $128,406. But pilots have an edge of their own. They work a lot less, averaging just 1,083 hours per year, compared to 2,188 for doctors.

The result is that pilots earn $118.58 per hour, easily outdistancing physicians, whose rate is $66.58, as figured by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

College professors, who typically work nine or 10 months a year, dominate the top 10 in average hourly earnings.

Glass = half full

Too bad pilots do a lot of work during times that they're NOT getting paid their hourly rate!

I hate when 'hourly' rates are used as comparison, it's not accurate.

Some people say the glass is half full. Some say the glass is half-empty. Me, I say the bartender screwed up!
