Tiedown info...

I'm trying to detail the tiedown apron for Bagdad airport... What's the typical wing to wing length of a single engine plane?

does anyone by chance know what the tiedown spacings are from front to back (perpendicular) of a single engine plane? I have a detail that shows the dimension between planes (21'?) and from left wing tiedown to right wing tiedown (49'?) but not a distance from the wing area to the back tiedown for the tail...

what's the typical distance from the nose of the plane to mid-wing?

I've gotten most of my info from the FAA but it doesn't seem like they complete their dimensions....

when you bring the airplane in to the apron, do you back the plane into the tiedowns or pull it in forwards? seems like most of the layouts i'm seeing show the taxilane in front of where the wing tiedowns would be located (making it seem like the plane is backed in)...

any help would be much appreciated!

As far as average wingspans/lengths go I think you're going to have to determine what the "average" aircraft is. Meaning does Bagdad get KingAir C-90s all the time or do they mainly see C-172s? Once you figure out what type of traffic the airports gets on a regular basis "averaging" the size of the aircraft will be much easier in turn making the determining the sizing/spacing of the tiedowns do-able.

As a pilot/user note ... pull through tiedowns are the greatest (tiedowns you can taxi into from behind and pull out of by going forward). However if you want to cram the apron with tie downs you'd be better served alternating the spaces (this would be where you taxi up swing around and get out and push the aircraft back.)

Hey Pilot602, I offered to go on 'retainer' for her engineering firm to supply consulting, but I guess you guys are just cheaper!

Well hell, why didn't you put out a memo ... here we are undercutting your consulting abilities.

So, uh, Kristie... to answer your questions ... I dunno. But I do know this Delta pilot who you might like to talk to ...

Finding the answer would involve me getting off my lazy butt, driving down to KSDL and measuring a tie down.

Perhaps we could convince Mavamb to measure one if he's not too busy!

[/ QUOTE ]see - now that's the problem.. something about "lazy butt" put it right in there... I might get my answer today, but I might be waiting 2 weeks for it... thing is, I need the answer like now (just like everyone else on the board) and since I don't have petty cash avail, I'd have to pay him some other way like by cooking or doing his laundry again - argh!!

but thing is - if i ask via the board, then i'm guaranteed an answer or at least a comment of some sort within a few seconds before my retained pilot gets off his lazy butt and gets me an answer... see?! see how the lazy butt fits in there pretty nicely?! hahahah j/k!

Hey, I've got credit! I just cleaned the cat box!

Beautiful animals, but vile and disgusting when it comes to excrement!

OMG.. you cleaned the cat box? just now.... you took all day to wait and clean the cat box? geez, they've been having to jump that thing all day - did either hit their heads on the way in/out?! hahahahahahha

-> yes folks, i asked him 2 days ago.. 2 days...

oh btw - i'm looking at mostly single engine, maybe 2 multi's....

I can give ya some approximations from the 172R POH. Tie down to tie down is about 21 feet, and tie downs to tail tie down is about 20-21 feet.
The wingspan total is 36'-1" from left wing to right wing w/ strobes.

If I went to the airport at midnight with a tape measure, I think they might look at me strangely.

Yeah, but at least you don't have to walk them like you do a dog.

I don't mind the litter box so much. What I do mind is when they decide, hey, let me eat that plant even though it will make me hurl. Then I get to clean that up.

And people wonder why I put in a hardwood floor?

You want to see something funny? Go to Safford Airport. They had new tiedowns and chains made when I was flying cargo there, but all were made for Air Tractor planes with enormous wingspans. Sorta funny seeing a 172 parked in a tiedown with the stripe longer than it's wingspan and the chains outside the wingtips.
