Three Takeoffs and Landings at Night

I understand that three full-stop takeoffs and landings are required for night currency. However, by fulfilling night currency, do you also fulfill day currency?

There's actually nothing in 61.57 that specifies day currency, it's just currency. I've heard some people refer to it as basic currency, and all that 61.57 (a) (1) requires is 3 T/O's and 3 Ldg's, without regard to when they were flown. Therefore, 3 night T/O's and Ldg's meet the requirement for night and basic currency. Because we know the requirements of 61.57 (b) are specific to night (1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise), we generally think of 61.57 (a) (1) as day currency. I know, I'm splitting hairs a bit here.
