Thoughts on Compass Airlines?

I see they have a dispatch opening and am curious if anyone has any experience working there? Or if anyone has heard anything through the grapevine? Minnesota seems like it would be nice in the summer, the winters..well...lol

So I'm going off of information that I believe is current, as I have not seen any industry news otherwise. But of course, there are most likely people who browse these forums that could offer more reliable information than I can. My gf was a previous F/A for them so we've been keeping up with it a little.

Back in August, Delta announced that they will not be renewing their contract with Compass, which is a substantial amount of their flying. This currently leaves them with American flying. Their corporate announced that something else was in the works and to hold tight, however that's where things left off and doesn't seem that anything sparked from that. Reminding that this was back from August. So of course speculations are everywhere from them picking up United flying, or trying to stay afloat with smoke and mirrors until the contract is over, etc.

As stated before, I'm not sure of any updates or current information, but that's the Intel from past/current employees. If it was me, I would probably see if they get a new contract or not.

Minnesota is nice. Great in the summer, cold in the winter. Jackets help. As for compass, for the same reasons listed above, i would rank them 2nd in terms of regional airlines that park in that particular parking lot.

I think Compass has regular DX openings, they probably lost a few to the latest Southwest hiring round-up. Like other said, I would check on their contract status, with only the American planes left, they have very few (around 20) planes.

I recently left Compass after many years there and would strongly recommend going elsewhere. The QOL and morale have been extremely low the last few years and I can only imagine its gotten worse since Delta's announcement. The rumors of picking up flying from United were effectively squashed the other day when UA announced a bunch of new Embraers were going to Mesa. I believe the AA contract is up for review in 2021 as well. Upper management will lie to your face in order to get you to do what they want. Meanwhile the SOC duty managers have, for the most part, given up. There is one in particular who regularly intimidates dispatchers into sending illegal releases without even holding a license himself. Last I heard, he was teaching part of new-hire classroom training... Lastly, the workload was bad when I left, considering the software they use, and quite a few dispatchers have left since then so I can only imagine its gotten worse.

If you need a job this is certainly one of them, but I would recommend a short term lease when you move up. I have strong doubts Compass will be around much longer.

Congrats on making it out. I enjoyed Edison and Jeremy's release notes; and knew it was going to be a rough day anytime I saw I was working with "M".

How bad is the software? If it’s the same one G7 and TSA use then no wonder.

Very interesting, I appreciate the insider info. I'll take this into account for sure. Anyone happen to know which airlines do have a decent workplace morale?

Look for the airlines that are growing. Growth/stability normally have a direct correlation with workplace morale. I have heard good things about SkyWest and Envoy.

Workplace morale is what you make it. Every single company you will work for has some "thing" that annoys employees or is not ideal including the airline I came from (and loved and honestly would go back to) and the place I work now (which has some of the best management I've ever had). If you keep a positive attitude and are good to be around and keep the mindset that you're bettering yourself every day and making yourself more qualified, you can enjoy your life whether you're at southwest, united, delta, or speed tape airlines.

Let’s be honest. You shouldn’t want to be at a regional long enough for morale to really matter. The only time you should possibly consider that is when you start applying to majors/mainline. I’m sure everyone here has their own list of mainline/major airlines they won’t apply to for various reasons.

When I was at a regional, there was no major I wouldn’t apply for. I saw an opening I jumped on it. I even applied places like frontier knowing I never would have been there long term. I just wanted to move up and keep getting that experience.

Fair, and I apply to almost every opening, except a few.

Moving is exhausting, so I’m trying to limit the number of times I move, but I’m sure a time will come where I become open to new possibilities that I’m not now.
