Must kinda suck? Kinda smart eh?

We're looking at the possibility losing our house because of this. It's nothing to be flippant about.

Well said, Amber. You guys have my sympathy ... hope you get through this OK.

ONCE AGAIN, for those that slept through class the first seventeen times, LABOR IS NOT KILLING THE AIRLINES! Every one of the Big Six would be turning a profit today if the cost of fuel were what it was ONE YEAR AGO. That's right, even United mired in Chapter 11. Even Delta, who everybody is convinced is going Chapter 11. Even US Airways, not only in Chapter 11 but given up for dead by just about everybody.

Stratospheric fuel costs, incompetent management, and a total lack of pricing power are to blame for the current state of the industry. Sodomizing your employees with a nine-foot broomstick is NOT the way to solve the problem.

Thanks Russ.

We're not sure exactly what this will mean. We'll have to run the numbers & decide what to do. We were actually considering moving regardless of how deep the paycuts went because of the insane taxes here and the hassles of commuting, but depending on what the dollar amount ends up equaling for us we may not have a choice.

So many people see in the media a 'number' published and fail to realize that, while rather abstract to them, that number may have significant implications to those personally involved.

So, triple7, yeah, it does suck. It does smart. A lot.

amber, i apologize.

I'm sure you didn't mean anything bad by it.

This TA is going to be a very bitter pill to swallow, and it's absolutly heart-wrenching to have the possibility of losing the house that your husband grew up in because airline management is a bunch of irresponsible morons.

By all means, don't do it because of me. I could care less if you open it and sound like a fool.

If I didn't have 'keepers' watching my every statement, I think I would certainly say something very similar to the above.

It goes back to your old comparison......if you run a restaraunt and the customer base is falling, you don't fire the chefs.....you modify the menu, etc....improve the customer service.....make it attractive for the customers to come. That's business and that's management.

Lemme be careful with this statement, but they've more or less pissed all of the chef's off and have renamed the pizza into "marina-sauced foccacia bread with fromage topping"

Ok, I apologize for all of the previous posts. Guess ill remove my foot from mouth at this point.

And look at the starting salaries. Not that outrageous, huh? $50K a year is not that big of a salary. You're not going to go broke on it, but it's not like you're making money hand over fits.

So cut that and think about it. Some techie who answers your help desk calls probably is making about that amount of money, and last time I checked, nobody ever died when he screwed up.

Here's another thing -- look at what Delta did with their $20 billion in debt. Not one thing. They went and got concessions from their employees, but did they go and tell the debt holders, give us new terms, or we'll just file chapter 11 and you'll be holding the bag?

Nope.

WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!

Ok, now that my token commie remark has been made this in all seriousness really sucks. A lot of people are going to come out swinging saying things like "Well they're still breaking six figures!" But when it comes down to it, you have been planning on making at least your current income for the forseeable future and you're banking on it. You buy houses based on that income, you buy cars on that income; in other words you make the economy run because you know that you're going to have X amount of money to work with. Taking a paycut like this is devastating and I hope everyone realises this.

[/ QUOTE ] that's right! that's why you've GOT TO put your VOTE where it counts! if not where we are today because of decisions made yesterday, this wouldn't be happening....

and yea.. it's NOT pleasant or humorous to find out that everyone else is "hunky dory" with this situation (with all the airline troubles)...even if we complain to our friends (just to vent or whatever), they'll still come back with "well, you still make more than we do, what's the big deal?".. BAH!

edit: oh and ditto what John said...you pay an arm and a leg to get to the position of workin in a major.. you expect to be paid back plus some while your working for that major...then because of economy issues (or mgmt issues?), over 1/3 of the rug pulls out from underneath you and yet your current president says "our economy is going up, we're improving jobs, moral.. blah blah blah"...ugh.. i'll take it over to arguepolitics.com cuz i just know our current economic situation along with managements mis-management is the root of all the airlines problems whether USAir, AA or DAL!

Why do I have this weird feeling that, now with the paycuts, Delta is going to be launching HUGE deep cut fare sales rather than finding a way to increase revenues, change business techniques, the way managers work, etc. etc. ???
