This is why pilots are paid soo little....

"If the greatest flight instructor charged for what he was worth no one could afford to learn from him or benefit from his abilities and he would might as well never have got his cfi"

Wrong! I only charge $40 per hour. J/K

In all seriousness though, Flying is a career for most and the point of a career is to make money on top of it being somewhat fulfilling.

Look man, nobody is telling you to price so high that you won't get customers. What everyone is saying is that you shouldn't lowball YOURSELF. Most people here said they could care less what you charge because it isn't going to hurt them. Most people here want to help out, believe it or not, this is how it happens. Take your ribbing, learn and price yourself at a respectable wage that one can actually live on.

We aren't trying to run you off the site or out of the aviation biz. Doing what you love is ideal, it is what most people want in life. You have the tools to do just that, a love of everything aviation, and the required certs. The fact that Tram called you and tried to actually physically speak to you about upping your wage speaks volumes. He could have just started the thread here to whine about the industry and we all could have lined up and taken our shots without you ever knowing that people thought poorly of your choice, but he didn't. Lots of the people on here are some of the most passionate outstanding people you could ever meet as well, but you have to stick around and talk to them, learn from them and grow yourself as an aviator who calls himself a professional.

Step back, take a deep breath and try and see the other side of the coin. Was the thread possibly pretty mean at some points, yeah. But coming on here assuming a different identity and defending working for an unlivable wage probably wasn't the best choice. My advice, Slow your role, seriously think about what some of the outstanding aviators here have said and learn.

I may be the first to welcome you to Jetcareers, it is an absolute gold mine of knowledge, wit, humor and sometimes heated arguments. But in the end, the vast majority of us would share a 6 pack with everyone else. (even if we are mean to each other sometimes)

Ok, I will and nicely put...See you make sense

What do you think the word "commercial" means?

My definition is having the ability to share your passion of flying with individuals who may be less qualified or experienced then you and help them in anyway you can, or the ability to fly across the country and see the world and the culture it has to offer...To me, its no more then a piece of paper saying that you've demonstrated to someone else that you can legally do these things. That doesn't actually say that your qualified or care to do these things it just means you have the option....

Sounds like private pilot privies.. Commercial means you get paid..

You can do all those things with a PPL. Commercial means you get paid to do it. I can drive my car across the country, but if I want to get paid to drive a big rig I have to have a CDL.

but you can't ferry an airplane, get your cfi, fly patrol, due sight seeing tours within a 25 mile radius, or anthing else FAR 119.1 says you can do with your commercial. Look you need to make money at some point to have a living (standard 0f living is a definintion that is dependent upon the person) to due the things you love....so thats why the $35 bucks???

But even if you worked 30 days per month at 35 bucks, that is only 1,050 before taxes. There is no way you can be living (on your own) , with your own insurance, in a house/apartment, and paying bills on that sort of wage. 35 bucks an hour, certainly that would be an awesome wage for an 8 hour work day. You can't even get into an amusement park for the day for 35 bucks anymore.

... and $35 a DAY provides a decent standard of living? Is this before or after welfare pitches in?

$35 a day x 365 = $12,775.00.

I guess that'd be ok.. If I lived at home, all my bills were paid and I did nothing but play Xbox and use the subway for travel.. I'd be almost hood rich..

Yeah, your right. But right now at this very very instant I don't have to pay back my loans, or pay for food or rent this month because I'm home. Honestly that add was a stab in the dark at what it would be like to be a ferry pilot and if i could even get a jig at 450 an hour

I thought you already had 3 gigs lined up?

You join here as your "friend" and now you're the guy who placed the ad?

A word of advice.. Stop lying..

Google Tim Martins to find out what happens to pilots who lie a lot..

But you will at some point, and you better start making some money somehow. You can get gigs at 450 hours, just have some confidence in your ability, patience, and pride in your profession. Network, ride with a ferry pilot to see what it is like if that is what you're into. You don't have to be the most expensive guy, but it doesn't pay to be the cheapest either.

Welp... seems this guy some sort of a troll and we've all been flame baited.

Nah, he really is Loren Thompson.. Most likely son of Tom Thompson..

Clipper is a PA-16..

5895H is a 1949 model Clipper his dad owns.. Who is most likely also who is letting him use his pass travel..
