Third Class or First Class?

I wear contacts and my corrected vision is 20/20 with both eyes. But my left eye is weaker then my right. I can read the 20/20 line fine with my right eye but on my left I can read it but not as clear. Should I just get a third class and then increase my prescription on my left eye?

Third class medicals are for private flight only. You will needs a second class medical to operate as a pilot for hire and a first class medical to be an airline pilot.

Just get your prescription updated so you can get your vision back to 20/15 or 20/20.

I know but I'm starting soon that's why I ask If I should just get a third class for now and then later on my training upgrade it. I can read 20/20 line but I have my doubts because It's not as clear as my right eye.

It may just be my AME but the vision test is the same regardless of what class of license you get. Its a non issue. Get a 1st class.

That is MUCH easier said than done in some cases. Not all of us are blessed with perfect/easily correctable vision :p.

i would try to fix your vision first and make sure that you can pass the test, rather then spend alot of money on training for a job you might not be able to attain.

most doctors will just tell you to go get your contacts or glasses upgraded if you fail the eye test. Then you come back afterwards and they will give you your medical after an eye exam. Some will offer to give you a 2nd or 3rd class until you come back depending on how badly you fail.

Actually, the 1st Class and 2nd Class vision requirements are the same.

go talk to your eye doctor before getting a medical. I've had similar problems as you, and most of the time a quick change in the prescription is all it took. If your eyes are pretty bad, I would recommend hard contacts if you're not already wearing them. They tend to correct astigmatism better and some eye doctors can fine tune them in the office to get your vision perfect before you leave.
