The Waco TFR

I might have just not searched hard enough to find a thread on this, but I'll ask it anyways.

Does anybody know if the TFR over the Bush's ranch will be lifted? If so when?

Don't know if this is true, but while flying over Waco a contoller told me the ranch was for sale, then when it sold the TFR would be lifted. This was shortly after the election.

well hopefully thats true and it sells soon. Im flying down to San Antonio in late April and just don't wanna have to deal with it.

Just put a big red x on your sectional and there's no way you can miss it.

Also get flight following down there to San Antonio and they'll keep you away from it.

What are you heading to SAT for?

oh yeah. Im planning on it. That, plus Im planning on going to an airport around 20 miles East of the TFR so I should miss it, it'd just cut about 10mins off if I could fly through it. Im going down to stay with my sister down there who's based outta Lackland AFB. While im down there Im getting a tour of the base with HeyEng/Galaxy whichever you know him as.

Holy hell I'd have to really get on it if I wanted to fly haha. I doubt I could fly, if I did it'd be real last minute. Actually the more I think about it probably not, cause that weekend's my birthday.

Ya know, I am not sure if P-49 still exists. It looks like it does. However, P-49 is 6 NM in diameter and only goes up to 5000 feet.

Ok so P-49 is the prohibited area around Crawford Ranch. It always exists.

Now, when Bush used to visit, a TFR, or Temporary Flight Restriction, would be published. This would expand P-49 to 30 NM in Diameter, with certain exceptions. In fact, I flew out of KTPL plenty of times when the TFR was in effect.

Anyway, I digress. The point is, there is no TFR in effect at P-49 and probably never will be again. Therefore, a simple prohibited area 6 NM in diameter up to 5k should not cost a single second of time enroute.

Looking it up on fltplan.com, it looks like a direct route would not even take you over P-49. However, it will take you through the edge of Fort Hoods restricted area. Might wanna get flight following and make sure you are talking to Gray Approach. Usually they will let you through that portion as it is not active very often.

thanks for that info.

I was looking on skyvector and it shows the 30 mile ring so thats why I was wondering.

April 18-19. If you wanna ride down together Im up for it.
I was actually thinking about timing a long student cross country to coincide with that, but I think that's just a little too late. I want to get those flights out of the way ASAP.

Yeah but a TFR is just that, temporary. They put that big white ring on there because of how common the TFR was, and how often it was violated. Lets' face it, Bush took alot of vacation!

One thing you should do before any flight, particularly cross countries, is check for TFRs, as they pop up everywhere and violating them can cost you your ticket. It is simple too...http://tfr.faa.gov/tfr2/list.html
