The University of Oklahoma Aviation Department and Pinnacle have announced a direct hire agreement. If you have graduated OU within 24 months, had a 3.00 or greater GPA, first class medical, and a few other items you are eligible to be placed on Pinnacles list for when the next class date is available.

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

I think this will be the new big thing.

I know of a guy that interviewed and got hired a month ago at a regional with 350/50 simply because of where he went to colllege.

There's a guy over at PPW that did that too, with Piedmont.

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

You think if they went to college they wouldve been smarter...

*runs...

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

Collegiate aviation programs have been gearing up for this for years. It's the reason that Western Michigan went to Cirruses; higher performance, glass cockpit aircraft that can provide the type of training that airlines will need in order to move somebody into the right seat of an RJ with 250ish hours.

With how few students there are to instruct these days, it's the way of the future whether we like it or not. Well, at least it's this or airlines doing their own ab initio training; this is just cheaper because it's outsourced.

Heard this was coming last week. I'd say we're desperate, but that would be an understatement. Rumor is the last class was supposed to be 16 but only 4 showed.

John, WMU is supposed to be getting one, too.....

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

Not surprising, what with Kalamazoo being just down the road from one of your bases. I think a lot of kids try to stick around the area and work at Pinnacle or Mesaba.

Ouch! Are things that bad a Pinnacle? I applied with Pinnacle about 6 months ago with ~1600TT/600ME and never heard a thing. I would have taken a job there in a heartbeat, too. I don't get it..........

I just cannot imagine being able to develop a well rounded pilot in that amount of time... I've got over 2,000 hours, a PIC jet type, 1300 hours of PIC, and I still feel like there's SO much for me to learn. But whatever, that's been discussed ad nauseam...

Yeah, it's a crap shoot on who they're calling for interviews. Kinda like I can't figure out why I'm not getting called at jetBlue, too. Same thing over there. Although, now it's starting to sound like they're calling guys with WAY more time than me, which I can understand.

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

I'm in the process of doing the direct hire program from Western Michigan. New hire packet is in the mail and a class date to follow once it's back to them. Either the 14th or 28th of this month. I'm quite excited as this was pretty much my last attempt at being able to get a flying job before it was unrealistic. (No $$ to finish my CFI, and I'm married so no gone for 8 months at a time)

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

Well, Mesa Pilot Development and ASU have been doing this for years. Then again, it was a guaranteed interview/preferential hire with MESA, and that was before they furloughed a third of their pilots...

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

I knew I should've gone to Riddle, that way I could've gotten to the Riddle Jeeeeeet faster! :sarcasm:

No, seriously: The Europeans put ridiculously low time pilots into fairly heavy, complicated airliners, without trouble. What is our major malfunction?

CFIT degree?

:rotfl: er, I mean, er, yeah...

I'm not sure why this argument is constantly brought up... It's similar to the "Well, gee! The USAF has low time guys flying jets all over the world!" argument. There's a BIG difference between some knucklehead throwing tons of money at a glossy ad flight school versus the rigorous selection process used by the military and non-US carriers.
