The real american tankers..

This one has puzzled me....I'm a buy American guy. On the other hand, i'm all for competition, better for the consumer. But WHY on earth, when it comes to military, would we put our reliance on parts, replacements, etc. on a FOREIGN power. Now i know, it's France, but still, that is really saying something. Strongest military on the face of the earth and were outsourcing...just doesn't make any sense.

The entire (A330) assembly plant would be moved to Alabama. The difference in jobs would be about 15% less with the Airbus plan vs Boeing.

I'd rather have Boeing flying in our sky than Airbus. Boeing seems to be more reliable than Airbus, and Boeing is American name. Besides, Airbus have a crappy fuel system.

Say it with a fake Texas drawl "Come on everybody..get your twitter and myspace friends together cuz Boeing tankers are as Real American as getting your girlfriend preggo then going duck hunting before woodshop." Rah rah. What a crap website. I feel like I'm voting for butter queen rather than an important multi-billion contract with deep economic and security issues. .

I'd like to see Boeing win with a superior product as anything less puts service members at risk. On time, on cost and on spec. For 10 years Boeing hasn't taken the bidding seriously..hopefully 3rd time is the charm.

I want the best tanker flying - no matter who makes it.

And there really is no "American" product anymore. Have you seen where all the parts for the 787 come from?

True statements. Agree.

We've been buying many things for our armed forces that have been foreign made (not just made with foreign parts). AV-8A/C model Harrier (the original one the USMC purchased), the HH-65 Dolphin USCG helo, the Eurocopter UH-72 Lakota helo, are ones that immediately come to mind.

I will vote when they remove:

Proven quality
Best value

I don't need their opinion tyvm. The other three on the list are statistics, that is all that matters. IMO of course.

I had someone once chastise me for owning two Toyota vehicles, and buying them as American manufacturers were collapsing. As I pointed out to him, my wife's '09 Camry has more American parts than any other vehicle on the market that year. My Tacoma was built in a plant in southern California.

But nothing at this size am I right?

...and size has what to do with it?

Let's see.. who will be building Hummers in the future?

Buy the best machine for the mission. Decide if footprint is most important or probes for off-load. It is really NOT the machine but which one can be the best force multiplier and get the fuel to the receivers.

By size I mean number of tankers built and the cost. How many HMMWV will still be produced with a new proposal to replace them and with all the new MRAPs out there?

I could be wrong but I thought the MRAP was a much larger, more costly vehicle that would be in addition to the Hummers, not replacing them.

Part of the knock on the KC-30 is that it will be assembled in Alabama as though a bunch of hicks will be doing a very technical job. History shows that Alabama has a long history in aviation including going back to WWII where it modified new B-24s with lessons learned in combat. And other contractors have been working on -135s and others for a LONG time.

Once again, image versus substance.

AM General, like they always have. All that was sold to the Chinese was the street Hummer division. The real Hummer is still built in South Bend, Indiana. As far as I know, that isn't changing.

I'd prefer a Boeing Tanker. They've built how many good aircraft for the US military?

I not basing this on anything more than a gut feeling but I feel Airbus would build a crappy tanker that would be full of problems. Plus they have no experience in the Tanker market, that I know of.
