The Many ATP Campuses

I pretty much have decided on ATP, but now comes which campus. My top four are Dallas, LA, Atlanta, and Jacksonville. Which one would you recommend.

Man...thats the truth. Talk about a bare bones setup! I was pretty surprised at how basic the one (PHX) was when I visited. But I guess thats not what it's all about though...if they had the big impressive facilities they would also have the big impressive price tag to suit. What counts is the quality of and type of instruction you get!

If you need your Private Pilot's License and want to do the Fast Track Program, you will need to go to Jacksonville.

Since I was already in Jacksonville, I stayed there. I probably could have gone back to Phoenix, but I didn't wanna drive back to Jacksonville again once I got hired.

This is contrary to what I have been told numerous times, by the instructors at PHX and JAX both. I was told you can do the 60 day PPL and the 90 day fast track together, at any location that offers the fast track program.

???

If you called JAX at 800-ALL-ATPS and they informed you that you could complete the 60 day PPL program at any of their 90-day ACCP locations, then I would believe them.

They HAVE said that. I've heard both versions (from ATP instructors) I was already planning on doing everything in PHX...so you're saying I definitely cannot? It would be nice to get the same story from everyone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

They definately only do the PPL program at Jacksonville, its the only place they have the 172s at. Maybe the instructors at PHX and JAX misunderstood what you where asking.

Believe me, I'm starting the PPL program in Jacksonville this Monday, and they assured me that it is the only location that they offer it at, unless they are planning to change things in the future, but currently, you have to completely the PPL program at JAX, after that you are free to go to any location which offers the 90 day ACP program.

That's why there have been people here who have done it in Dallas, right?

Doesnt mean they still do.. but.

Did they do the 60 day PPL program or the 4 months one? Checked the website and the 4 month program is the only one offered nation wide. Best bet is to call the main office in Florida to find out for sure.

ATL has two Cessna 172s.

Don't all 90 day ACPP locations have at least one to do the single engine ratings in?

There was one parked at RAL when I visited. I could be wrong, but I'd guess not everyone makes it out to JAX, but everyone in the career pilot program has to do the SE add-ons.

You can ONLY do the PPL 60 day "Accelerated" program in JAX. After that, you can transfer to any 90-day FastTrack location (Atlanta, Dallas, Jacksonville, Riverside, Phoenix, Sacramento, Stuart, Manassas).

There are Cessnas at all of the 90-day locations. The Cessnas are used to help Career pilots to build the required 85 hours/25 PIC XC time and to complete the single engine CFI and Commercial SE checkrides. With the exception of JAX they are NOT used to train private pilots.

You can also trasfer to non-90-day location and do the Self Paced version of the Career pilot program, but again you have to go to JAX for the 60 day PPL.

There has been at least one 90 day Career Pilot in Dallas, Smokey, (and I believe a few more in the pipeline) who went thru the 60 day PPL in JAX then transfered to DFW.

Check the ATP Web site, it is very clear on this subject.

FYI, I am an ATP instructor in Dallas and I was in the office answering phones as recently as 2 months ago.

I guess it is conceivable that an ATP instructor who has been instructing for some time and thus may not be entirely familiar with the 60 PPL program could have some facts mixed up.

Merlin is correct in what he said.

The Private program comes in two versions
1) 60 day program in JAX only (provided by ATP instructors in ATP planes)
2) 4 month program nationwide (through a local FBO, then timebuild in ATP aircraft with ATP instructors)

If someone told you that you could do it all in PHX, it would have to be the nationwide pvt program, then finishing off your cessna time at PHX before starting the ACPP.

Every location will have at least one 172. That doesn't mean you can do the PPL at every location, however. The 172s are used for your single engine commercial, as well as flying time off if you came in with less than 25hrs XC PIC, like I did.

Consider this my "WhOOT!" for Riverside. All of the instructors who did their ACPP here want to come back here as instructors, regardless of where they are from. We do things a bit differently here, and have a great time.
