The future of pilot jobs

Ok, now I'm starting to understand you a little better. So now a couple of questions.

Given your statement that flying an airline requires monkey skills, who then would you say SHOULD fly airliners?

If that's what you thought from the beginning, then why lower yourself to the level of monkeys and get into the same industry?

My father constantly says I should join the Navy to get flight training. What would you say to that?

Now I'm mildly intrigued by your last post, so please keep that coming.

The day a monkey can do a ILS PRM "breakout" maneuver, make a mid-ocean decision about whether to divert to Lajes or press on when there's 18 people vomiting their guts out, or handle a massive bird strike at V1 at MGTOW, yeah, perhaps it only takes a monkey! ;)

Am I thrilled with this profession? Nope, but there's a decision to be made:

Stay in and try to make it better, piece by piece. Or leave, save one poor soul from getting furloughed and do something else.

Doug, when was the last time you were at the zoo? They gots some smart monkies nowadays... :D

maybe all it takes is a monkey wrench?

Here is an honest question that accepts the hypothetical that everything about this job sucks seagulls.

Why not change careers?

Most of us as pilots are very rarely the dumbest guy in the room so finding other careers should be possible to say the least. Please don't give me the response of "I've already put so much time and money into it...blah blah blah" either. Thats just a cop out. If you're miserable when things are supposed to be new and exciting you'll be miserable 10 years down the line, why do that to yourself?

I hope anyone who is thinking about becoming a pilots reads some of these dumb posts and decides to move on.

For real, since coming to this site I haven't seen a single post about the good parts of being a pilot (That was kind of why I came here) I was hoping there would be a few more "inspiring words" for my dream career. But no, It is mostly people like Chris_Ford, who just whine, post after post about how everyone is trying to ruin the industry, and how useless the job. I was definitely hoping I could find more words of encouragement. Pretty much all that I have gotten from these forum posts is reasons why I am ruining my life trying to become a pilot, or reasons why current pilots hate new pilots.

No joke. It's fairly sad actually, that all people do is bitch. It's not worth it really, all though I'm sure it is all mostly keyboard jockeying going on.

Well. . .I'd rather read the negatives of a profession than reading a whole bunch of sugar coated fluff.

But maybe that's because I'm a realist and not some perhaps chasing his "dream." But rather a profession.

Or maybe you just find something wrong with just about everything. Yes because you never chased your dream, you want to become a pilot just so you can cry about unions and JetU all day and night.

Like I said before. I rather regret attempting to be a pilot than regret not attempting it. I'm going for it 200%.:nana2:

Incorrect.

I don't cry about Unions or JetU.

But *gasp* we can't be honest here because it might scare people away from the profession. Come on man.

There are great things about this profession, but they are great because people spoke up about issues that needed to be fixed. If we are mum to the fact that things are not that great (or even as great as Flying Magazine, or AOPA's Flight Training) we can never achieve the improvement many of us are striving for.

So here is to improving the profession, one bad issue at a time.

The biggest issue is at time it seems that there is not one good thing about the industry (or the world) from some of the post on here lately.

Every time some one posts about trying to shoot for their dream it because a shouting match of whats wrong with the industry. Aviation, like life, isn't fair all the time. Some people just need to make a decision, if it's so bad then find something else to do.

Welp, it is what it is.

For multiple reasons I can not support anyone coming into this industry right now as a pilot.

Just like life, it's important to be honest to yourself about what you're about to get yourself into.

Which, is I think what Jetcareers is all about to ME. Providing honest input to people seeking careers in the aviation industry, be it pilots, mecanics, rampers, ATC's, etc.
