Worst part...the pilot wasn't instrument rated and took off into night IMC and possible heavy icing. Completely avoidable as so many tragic accidents are.

I have been told that this accident is one reason that a commercial pilot needs an instrument rating to fly for hire more than 50 NM at night.

In any case, I'm surprised I haven't heard "American Pie" on the classic rock station yet today.
