Position Description


As a Test Pilot for BT&E Flight Operations supporting the V-22 program, duties could include: Plans and conducts ground, flight and maintenance test flights for experimental, prototype and production aircraft to determine system functionality, aircraft performance and structural integrity of aircraft. Develops and coordinates flight test plans, procedures and techniques to achieve qualification or certification. Plans and develops technical reports and flight reports. Evaluates flight data (e.g., system performance, aircraft handling, and equipment malfunction) and participates in aircraft design to recommend changes to design based on operational considerations. Collaborates on marketing, evaluation and demonstration activities for customers; conducts familiarization, demonstration and training flights. Job requires FAA ATP or Commercial certificate with the appropriate endorsements. Domestic and international travel required.

Utilize this knowledge to resolve customer issues, to design and develop products, and to mentor less experienced personnel.

Knowledge of how the customer flight crews operate aircraft during day to day operations, including typical airline/military flight operations and all normal and non-normal operating procedures and checklists. Knowledge of the Air Traffic Control environment and how aircraft are routed through the air traffic environment.

Extensive knowledge and ability to develop proposals for multiple new projects based on regulatory requirements (e.g., FAR, JAR, Mil-Spec, etc.) without existing proposals as reference or examples.



Basic Qualifications For Consideration

Are you a graduate of a Test Pilot School?



Typical Education/Experience


Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor’s and 9 or more years’ experience, Master’s with 7 or more years’ experience or PhD with 4 or more years’ experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.




Other Job related information


This position supports the V-22 Test Team at Patuxent River Maryland. V-22 Qualification and graduation from an approved test pilot school is mandatory. Instructor Pilot Qualification preferred but not required. Domestic and international travel required. This position will have irregular work schedules as needed for the business.
