Telex "Regional Jet Package" Headset?

Not the telex, but I use two custom ear molds with Plantronics equivalent to that telex 5x5, and I love it.

Go for it, you won't be disappointed. Your ears will thank you.

I use it with the Telex and really like in the ERJ. The trick is to go to an audiologist and have the molds made of your ear. Make sure they do deep impressions. John from pilotstuff.com will send you an e-mail with instructions for the audiologist. You'll then send those into the lab and your molds will come back. The first set they send me left a big gap around my ears, so I sent them back and he made them so they fit almost perfectly.

Also, there are instructions on his website on how to set the gain for the ERJ. They're very good, easy to follow instructions (I should know...I'm the one who gave them to him). It is very important to set the gain right or the other guy your flying with will want to kill you.

You'll enjoy them.

I use these in the Dash 8 and I love them. When they first came out they were $160. Now they are $225 I believe (thanks to weak dollar, the Fed printing money like it's "free"). I had to have them replaced under warranty because of the poor build quality when they first came out, but they have since improved on them greatly. They no longer have the "noise burst" feature which was to prevent excessively loud ATC transmissions from hurting your ears. That feature originally failed miserably in that you had to have the volume down so much to prevent the "feature" from activating. What it did was almost completely cut off the audio to the point that it made it completely impossible to understand the transmission... if it barely exceeded that overzealous threshold. Now that feature doesn't get in the way of transmissions no matter what the volume is. They are super comfy on long flights and I love the mic position that allows for sipping water without having to move the mic up.

Is the noise reduction really enough? I have to wonder how well they would work in the ERJ as that cockpit might actually be louder than the Dash... I've heard the Telex 850's aren't even enough for the ERJ...

It's definitely not quiet but it's not too loud up at cruise so I'm content with it. I would like something a little quieter but not heavier and most of the in ear's are not TSO'd.

Bump.. I was thinking of switching from the bose to this the clamping is just too much for the long 3-4 hr flights... Has anyone used these?

Used these what?

I highly recommend the Plantronics MS50/T30 with dual custom ear mold set up.

I originally got the kit with the ear molds as well. The custom ear pieces fit perfectly, however when I attached the telex 5x5 it would pull the ear piece just slightly out enough to negate any of the noise canceling. First I got frustrated, then I got creative. Ultimately, I created a rig using the telex that is basically the same as the clarity aloft, just $500 less expensive. PM if you want details.

Researching in ear headsets for the Embraer, and comments would be greatly appreciates. Thanks, DP

I use the Halo, made by Quiet Technologies.

Simple design, way cheaper than the Clarity Aloft. No Battery, uses basic earplugs that are replaceable. No custom ear mold bs.

I have had many different headsets, and I'll stick with this one from here on out.

Disclaimer: I fly a crj200. I don't know how loud a erj is, I've heard louder than a crj.

The EMB-145 makes the CRJ seem whisper quiet.
