Displaced... again.
I love the fact that my airline has aircraft headsets... but since I am sharing them with about 900 other dudes and dudettes not only do I worry about sharing their cold, flu, or 'something worse.' They are also not that 'quiet' and I find that I constantly am turning up the volume and am worrying about long term hearing loss. (Plus my time on the 1900, DC-9, and Mad Dog doesn't help either...)
I was going to buy the Telex 850, but as I am reading about the Ascend it seems like a good 'all in one' headset... and even though you have to carry extra accessories I think i would use it as a good set of headphones while watching TV on deadheads, or listening to music in the back.
So... does anyone own it? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Have you tried one on? Is it uncomfortable?
And... I'm currently on the 320, I used to have a Bose X on the 1900 and CRJ - I loved it except for it pinching my head on hour #14. I used a Telex 700/750 on the DC-9 and Mad Dog - It was ok, the biggest problem was the guy in the left seat who would use a headset and earplugs and expect you to scream at him, but then would whisper at you, so I couldn't wear earplugs.
The bus is kind of quiet compared to a CRJ. I was hoping to get something that would work in both a 320 and maybe a E190 down the road. I don't mind it being 'too much headset' for the plane as long as it works, keeps things quiet, is somewhat comfortable, (because I intend to wear it at altitude - yes, I will be 'that guy') and I can still hear the other guy through the headphones. (which I couldn't on the Bose if we weren't on the intercom)
Thanks everyone!
