Telex 850's

Telex 850\'s

Has anyone ever used the Telex 850's in a CRJ/Challenger/ERJ type jet?? I have a set a DC's but they make my brain hurt after about an hour, I have a pair of Telex 750's and really like them but it's still a little loud unless you wear ear plugs which is almost as uncomfortable as the DC's.

I was just reading Telex's website and apparently the 850's are only 4 oz., have an ANR system that gets ride of the wind noise and other noises in a jet cockpit, and the best part - have no battery pack! They are powered from the intercom circuit - which makes me wonder if you have to have the I/C in the 'hot mike' position to make the ANR portion work.

And at Marv Golden.com they are about twice the price of the regular 750's -- just wondering how well they worked.

Re: Telex 850\'s

Hey Jason, I use the non-ANR version of the 850 (750?), but we have the 850's in the airplane as well (Lear 55). I prefer the non-ANR's (it's not too loud in the Lear, how could it be too loud in the 604?

). The ANR's are just kinda weird. I think the main reason I don't like the 850's is because in my airplane, you have to key the PTT to use the intercom. It's not VOX. The 850's are sooo quiet that the FO and I can't really communicate very well by just talking. Each time I want to use the intercom (with the 850's), I have to turn the rotary transmit switch to "intrph" and then use the PTT button to talk. Pain in the butt.

So my conclusion is: The 850's are VERY comfortable and they work TOO good.

You can't just "talk" to the guy next to ya. Especially in the Challenger.

Just my opinion on them.

Re: Telex 850\'s

The 604 is ridiculously(sp?) quiet - we very rarely ever wore headseats at all. Due to circumstances beyond my control - or actually quality of life choices my wife and I made - I have been banished to the He!! we know as the "Regionals" and am once again slumming it in the CRJ.

Windshield wipers, escape hatch, and lack of soundproofing make the CRJ a whining SOB - I'd say at least 3 times louder than the 604.

Thanks for the info - maybe I'll stick with my 750's.
