One of the flight schools I fly for just got one on leaseback. Anyone here have any expierence in one? Being the only MEI at the school I need to learn about this thing fairly quick.

General characteristics of the plane? Does it truly cruise at 140-150kts as advertised online? How is the performance and handling on a single engine? Fun plane to fly? Ect.

Just looking for general info from anyone who has flown the a/c.

Thanks

I've got about 250 hours in the thing. My company got the first or second one to be imported to the US so we worked out a lot of "kinks" for Tecnam. PM me with specific questions and I can also load you up on all sorts of documents for the thing. I've got systems gouges appropriate for the MEI/ATP level of knowledge and also a good Standardization Manual for the maneuvers and everything flight related. It has some major flaws anyone teaching in the thing must be aware of but it is overall a great aircraft and it is one of my favorite multis I've flown. Second to the BE200 and turbo Seneca.

Hi Chris,

I have been thinking about buying a p2006t but have not yet flown one. I noticed your comment that it haome major flaws. Could you tell me what the flaws are? I appreciate hearing from one of the rare pilots with much experience in this plane.

Well we worked through and helped Tecnam fix a lot of the "flaws". So it isn't like you would be dealing with the exact same aircraft that we were a few years ago... There are just operational considerations to take when operating/owning the aircraft that I think anyone thinking of owning it should take into consideration before buying. If you can, PM me and I can send you an email with more details.

I received training and completed my FAA Commercial Mult-Engine checkride in the Tecnam. Very good airplane that can run either on auto-gas or 100LL.

I think that 140-150 might be true airspeed. Not %100 sure. Single engine performance is outstanding, and from what I witnessed/heard very docile.

Our school had Tecnam bring one of their P2006Ts for our school to check out and see if we were interested. I rode in the back while my commercial multi instructor got to try it out. When they did an engine failure, my instructor didn't even bother to feather the propeller because he said it was super easy to fly even with the propeller unfeathered. You have to realize though that I trained in a Diamond DA42-L360 TwinStar. The rudder force required in that with an unfeathered dead engine is quite intense.

Also from what I witnessed, it has a slow gear cycle time, and it's kind of sluggish getting off the ground on takeoff. I would liken the take off to a 727 where the nose rotates, then it takes a few more seconds before it actually lifts off the ground. This is what I personally witnessed, but I think overall, if that is the equipment your school provided you with, it sounds like you're going to have a fun time flying it. :)

Single engine performance is not the same as single engine handling.

2700 lbs at sea level you have a SE power to weight ratio of 27:1... Most light twins are around 20:1 at about 10% under gross. I don't know what the published numbers are but I would imagine you would be lucky to get 200fpm out of it.
