tecnam lands gear up at kfmy

They (Tecnam) is working on a larger version too, with Cape Air helping in the design.

It's the P-2012 Traveller, designed as a replacement for Cessna 402s et al. Lycoming (not Rotax!) TEO-540-A1A engines (horizontally-opposed 6 cylinder, geared, 350 shp), can run on avgas or mogas, fixed-gear unpressurized twin with up to 11 seats. Cape Air put out specs in an RFP, and Tecnam came closest. Now they're working together (whatever that means). Innovative little Italian company, best known for light singles (think flying Vespas). Prototype probably flies within 2 years. Mock-up looks very nice (but don't they all :) )

Check out their web site: http://www.tecnam.com/en-GB/aircrafts/New-Models/P2012-Traveller.aspx

I think Tecnam Twin, Piaggio, the mockup, et al are hideously ugly. :| There go my dreams of flying for cape air! :<

Am I the only one wondering why they cover up the tail number?

bilde

Tail number could be used to trace to owner, would be my guess. It seems like over-kill to me, too.

I do remember the famous Aloha 737 decompression in Hawaii. The local Aloha manager sent someone to Sears for some Weatherbeater, and there was a photo in circulation of a guy with a paint roller covering up the Aloha logo on the tail.

I believe so. Whether Cape Air asked for it, or Tecnam said "It'll save $X per airframe" or just it's simpler, I don't know. 750 Hp @ 220 mph @ 10,000 ft - maybe the drag isn't enough to bother.

Also reduces the gear-up landings.

Their secret didn't last for long!

Seems like something people do but don't understand why?
