Switching from airlines to corporate

Hello all,

I've been flying 121 for about eight years, currently an MD11 F/O at Gemini. Long story short, I'm thinking of trying to move to the corporate world. The problem is, I have no idea of how to go about finding a job! There are thousands of subscription based websites, but I was hoping for a little free advice before I sign up. Any thoughts?

With your experience, I would start calling anyone that you think you would be interested in flying for. You have the experience that most places are looking for so now it's up to you to go and find the place that you want to work for.

I know a AA Captain that retired early but still wanted to fly so he got on the phone and started calling around to different corporate flight departments and within two weeks was hired to fly a charter 757.

A little leg work always pays off.

Flying corporate and corp jobs are almost an even odder find than 121 jobs. Some of the best jobs I've ever seen were had because folks were just around the airport at the right time. Good example, there is a guy where I live that used to be DJ at clubs, got his PVT, INST, COMM (AMEL) over a ten year period. With less than 2000 TT, he got hired as Chief Pilot for a Part 91 Corp Flight Dept at ILM flying a Falcon 50! Now they've got two more BE40's. This guy, who can't be more than 30 is bringing in 125K, mananging an 8 pilot staff and three years ago he was a DJ!!!!!!

My own experience is the http://www.climbto350.com is the best site around. It's kind of pricey, but for the intel, you can't beat it. Also, LOTS of Part 91 Corp Jobs are advertised on monster and careerbuilder because the owners don't know anything about where to place ads.

Good Luck.

Not tryin' to bust your chops man but I don't buy it for a second. What you explained above is pretty much impossible. You don't go from no turbine time, or high performance jet time for that matter, to chief pilot of a falcon 50 op with 2000 hours. Heck, someone wouldn't even be selected for a Falcon 50 FO position with that experience in most cases. Seriously man, nothing personal, but your friend is either not telling the truth or the story is flawed.

Well first of all, he's not my friend. Second, I've watched from my office over the last years as this has taken place. The DJ was pals with the CEO of the Pharma. Company that owns the Falcon... I'm sure the CEO was willing to do whatever it took to get him the job. I didn't mention it because I thought it was funny, I mentioned it because its CRAZY.

Furthermore, I used the story to demonstrate it's who you know, not what you know.

I didn't say it was funny. You must not have understood my post. It is impossible to go from no turbine or high performance jet experience (extensive experience) to that position and be safe and effective with the said amount of experience. Besides the fact that there isn't an issurance company in the world that would approve this type of operation. I'm sure there's just more to it, that's all.:)

Furthermore, I used the story to demonstrate it's who you know, not what you know.

I understand and this is very true.
