Swiss Int'l Airlines

Guten Tag!

I am curious if there is anyone here at JC that flys for SWISS or knows someone who flys for SWISS. I have many questions about their hiring process and what it's like to work there. After I get my "C" work permit and JAA I would like to fly for SWISS. Ich bin auf Deutsch fließend.:D
Thanks for all the help and thoughts in advance!

first you need the EU passport, 2.you need JAA (dreadful conversion) EXPENSIVE. 3 you need to speak fluent in German.

good luck

Is there any kind of a "spool up" time like for expatriates flying for Lufthansa? I think LH gives expats like 24 months to learn German. I may be wrong though.

it all depends on supply and demand. I remember 2 years ago, lufthansa cityliner took pilots that where willing to learn german within a year or two.

I know you dont need the passport. But I do need a work permit C and the JAA conversion. Ich spreche sehr gut deutsch, danke. :D I have heard that if you have your ATP the JAA conversion isn't as bad. Anyone else hear the same?

My main question is how it is working there and have they hired non-EU pilots. Also, would you happen to know of a forum for european pilots? Maybe there's some swiss pilots hanging out there. Vielen dank fur ihre hilfe! ;)

Forgive me for not writing a long explanation on the conversion process since you obviously have not done the basic research on it. No way to get around the written exams for a JAA license issuance (not talking validation...). The exams are what they are. Now if you are talking cost and simplicity, it is true it is easier to convert a FAA ATP to a JAA ATP than a commercial, if you have at the bare minimum 500 hrs multicrew. Recommend you pick up a copy of LASORS and give it a glance, just as I would recommend someone glance at the FAR AIM once or twice if they planned to obtain a US ATP.

I'm glad you can figure out what I haven't done my research on based on one simple question. I simply wanted reassurance on things I have already heard and read. Thanks for sparing me your long, possibly rude, explanation.

Nope. I'm not trying to save money nor make it simple. I want it to be as expensive as I can possibly make it and draw it out as long as humanly possible. Expensive and complicated is what I'm striving for.

Good luck then. Make sure you have the multi crew hours. If you can get those multi crew hours in the same plane you will fly in Europe, even better.:D

Even if you have the right to work in Europe and meet all the requirements, you still have to take all the JAA Exams. They are a b!tch. It's not like here where you study the Gleim and memorize the answers. I've seen some of those JAA exams, and I was scratching my head.

I have a friend who is a check airman at Lufthansa CityLine on the CRJ. Last time I was in Germany in November, he was talking about paycuts and possible furloughs. However, the web site above mentions a shortage of pilots and new aircraft orders. Not sure how recent that is!?

no shortcuts to jAA. I hold an FAA ATP and I had to sit all the 14 exams. Takes around 10 - 12 months to finish. I have applied to swiss and got a negative answer. If you come out of the swiss flight school you have a chance to get inside the company, otherwise you need to have a Type Rating on the Avro or A320 and 500 hours on Type. Why do I know this? it is just a good friend of my applied same time as I did, he got an interview, but he had 500 hours on Airbus 320.

Things looks very bad in Europe.

does anyone have any info in terms of getting into swiss aviation training (SAT) both ab initio and not. Also any info on Zurich University of Applied Sciences new aviation program? Ich spreche deutsch, Ich besuchte die Schweiz im Sommer, it war prima!

Send me a PM. I know a lot about SAT but can't do it unfortunately. Not Swiss citizen.

By the way, spreche sie schweizer deutsch? Ist eine merkwürdige Sprache. :P
