SWA taking off with music over PA?

I like it. That song came on the ADF the other day, and I almost put it on the PA to accompany my run down a glacier... but I opted not to 'cause I didn't want to imply danger.

Jesus Christmas, people... if this bothers you, you REALLY need to lighten up.

Juneau was playing some awesome tunes the other day.

Dillingham does play awesome music on Friday nights, @alaskadrifter

The issue is that almost any POI, other than Southwest's, would violate the entire crew.

Sounds like almost every POI other than Southwest's is a •, then.

That being said, why begrudge them their apparently-excellent POI?

Certainly it's reasonable for one to ask, "if my POI would violate the crew-as would most- why is Southwest different? And is that difference a sign of relaxation, indifference, or unsafe culture?" Isnt it?

Personally I think some relaxing (with itallics) low volume muzac should be mandatory for all takeoffs for the benefit of less seasoned flyers (read: scared). You may baulk at the stricter crew environment, but that's the airlines for ya, and I would argue it serves us well.

Listening to music is dangerous! Especially if you're sitting in the back.

Lighten up. Exactly what would a POI violate the crew for?

Soooo glad I left that godforsaken airline. What a bunch of unprofessional hicks.

And the reason the POI would violate the crew is because the PA needs to be available for emergency announcements from the flight crew. A nice inspector would probably excuse the front end crew if they said they didn't know what the jackass FA was doing, but a not-so-nice inspector (the POI isn't the only one who rides in the back and can issue LOIs) wouldn't hesitate to write up the whole crew. Stupid, stupid, stupid. And tacky and unprofessional.

Wouldn't the person recording also be in violation of using a personal electronic device below 10,000 and failing to comply with a crew member's instruction ?

Southwest has problems with landing incidents, I wouldn't be worried about take offs. U.S. Airways on the other hand....

No. That's changed. Gate to gate now, as long as the cell network is off.

There is a reason people like flying SWA, it has largely to do with their culture and attitude. I've had fun on every SWA flight I've been on, a complete breath of fresh air. That said, it was not the best idea to do this. But holy crap people, calm down.

We're flying friggan airplanes, god forbid someone tries to have a little bit of fun once in a while. Talk to the FA and advise it isn't a good idea, let's not tar and feather them though.
